In the bustling home of the Hart family – Melissa, Bill, Kierra (15) and Zoey (13) – there’s one family member who’s always full of joy, love and boundless energy – Coco, their 5-year-old miniature American shepherd. Described as “a ball of love, joy and energy,” Coco has been enriching the family’s life every single day since joining them in 2020.

If you’ve spent any time near the water in The Peninsula, there’s a good chance you’ve seen John Polek in action. A lifelong resident of the neighborhood and a rising star in competitive sailing, John has spent the better part of two decades navigating both the waters of Lake Norman and the demands of academic life with impressive focus. Now 20 years old and a junior at the College of Charleston studying accounting, John first got hooked on sailing through summer camps at the Peninsula Yacht Club. What started as a childhood hobby soon evolved into a full-blown passion as he joined a junior sailing team formed by local kids and a dedicated coach. “That early team experience really shaped my love for the sport,” John says.
