“Duration of Status (D/S)” allows F-1 students to remain in the United States for the full length of their academic program, any authorized practical training, plus a 60-day grace period—as long as they maintain their student status.

Recently, a proposal related to D/S was released, and universities along with international student offices are currently reviewing the details and providing their feedback through the official public comment process.

It’s important to note that this is only a proposal. Nothing has changed, and all current D/S rules remain fully in effect.

This update is simply to keep students informed about policy discussions happening at the federal level. We will continue to share updates as the Department of Homeland Security moves forward with its review process.
