Louise Smoak, known lovingly as “Granny” to all who know her, celebrated her 101st birthday on May 15 with a special luncheon for 12 at the dining room at Trump National Golf Club. A true family matriarch, Louise lives with her granddaughter Laura Garrison and Laura’s husband, Troy, who moved to The Point in June 2020.

If you stroll through Wareham Village, chances are you’ve seen a fluffy white bichon frisé supervising the neighborhood with quiet confidence – or perhaps energetically chasing down a treat. That’s Cooper Moon, the 10-year-old pup who’s become a beloved presence in his community and a constant companion to Beth Moon. “He’s a sweet, loyal boy and extremely protective of me,” Beth says. After the loss of their first bichon in 2014, Beth welcomed Cooper from a breeder in Wilmington, NC. “We’d been considering a rescue named Cooper, but he was adopted before we got the chance to meet him. That same year, American Sniper came out starring Bradley Cooper – so the name stuck.”

For the second year in a row, over 64 women from TNGC and three other local clubs (Lake Norman Racquet and Social Club, The Peninsula Club and Lake Norman Pickleball Association) gathered at the pickleball courts to drill, compete and – more importantly – raise funds for Bosom Buddies Benefit Organization (BBBO). After a clinic and match play, players enjoyed a delicious lunch in the ballroom veranda where a silent auction and raffle showcased a wide array of products and services from over 29 generous donors. This year, a tennis component was added to the mix the night before, bringing over 50 men and women from TNGC to the courts for a time of friendly play, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction. Together, the two events raised close to $40,000, blowing past their goal of $35,000 and exceeding the $30,000 raised in 2024.
