A poem for J. Savage:
You came like thunder, bold and bright,
A fire that lit the coldest night.
With words and rhythm, truth you spoke,
A legacy in every note.
That blue Dodgers jacket, the crowd, the stage,
A moment that lived beyond its age.
We saw a star begin to rise,
Now watching over us in the skies.
Brother in music, spirit, and soul,
You left your mark — you made us whole.
Though you're gone, your voice remains,
A melody in love and pain.
🕊️ Rest in Power, J. Savage (Jonathan Scruggs) 🕊️
My heart is absolutely broken right now. Today, we lost not just an incredible artist, but a truly special human being. J. Savage was 35 years young, full of talent, full of purpose, and full of life. His journey was just getting started, and it hurts deeply to even write these words.
I met J. Savage in person for the first time at a show I was promoting on January 20, 2023. He was on the lineup that night and walked up to me and said, "How can I get on the EarCandy roster?" I told him, "Kill it on stage," and that's exactly what he did. I’ll never forget how he lit up the stage and declared to the crowd they’d remember his blue Dodgers jacket — and they did. His energy, his charisma, and his presence were unforgettable. By the end of his set, he had 100 new fans… and I was one of them.
From that night forward, our bond grew stronger. I gave him my number immediately and said, “Let’s work.” He wasn’t just an artist on the label — he quickly became like a little brother to me. It was an honor to witness his growth, his heart, and his relentless passion for his craft.
To his mother and father, his kids, his family, and all his friends — my deepest, most sincere condolences. I’m praying for strength, peace, and comfort for everyone who loved him. His legacy will live on through his music, and in the hearts of everyone he inspired.
Rest easy, Savage. You will never be forgotten. 💔🎤💙
