If you're in a place where you'd like to try expressive writing (as described in the article linked below), to cope with covid-19 or civil unrest or anything else, let me know, one way or another. I'm creating a virtual space for support and solidarity and will be happy to invite you.

"Expressive writing is a specific technique, and it’s different from just writing in a journal. People need to reflect honestly and thoughtfully on a particular trauma or challenge, and do it in short sessions—15 to 20 minutes for a minimum of three days is a good place to start."

December is traditionally a sweet month.

Sugar cookies, gingerbread houses, fudge, candy canes, and treats galore.

Hopefully, in your years, you’ve made at least one treasured memory that you can recall right now.

I invite you to take a few moments right now to close your eyes and rewind to that time and place ... to the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and touches you’ve linked to that memory. Take a mental snapshot of how you felt in that moment, then write down as many sensory details as you remember.

Take time to really feel the joy, the warmth, the love you felt in that moment. To inspire others whose memories may be harder to unearth, share a few details of your sweetest memory below.

For some of us, December is a bittersweet month of sadness, anxiety, frustration, and end-of-year angst.

❄️ Maybe we are missing loved ones no longer at the celebration or facing financial worries or health concerns heading into the longest night.
❄️ Maybe holiday gatherings are fraught with tensions or too rushed to relax and enjoy. ❄️ Maybe we’ve been so busy that the season sneaked up on us, and now we feel unprepared.
❄️ Or the lights seem too bright, the carols too loud, and the scents of baking too overwhelming to manage.
❄️ Or, perhaps worst of all, we scroll through all the posts and photos of everyone else enjoying holiday revelry while we sit home alone, again, or sit awkwardly at a table with people we don’t know, listening to stories that don’t include us.

These feelings are real, and we need to sit with them to honor and understand them in order to release them.

But—and this is the most important part—we have to let the challenging feelings pass by to make way for the good feelings we want to nurture.

Calling happy memories to mind in colorful detail helps set the stage for making more golden memories and can help build resilience for everything we have to do as 2019 comes to a close.

🕯The best thing about a sweet memory is that it’s an all-natural, zero calorie indulgence, and it doesn’t take up any space in our purses, pockets, or carry-ons.
