Happy New Year!

01/01/2026

Thank you all for another amazing year! This was a WILD year for weather. I can't wait to see what 2026 has in store for us. Stay safe tonight, drink responsibly, get a designated driver, and above all have fun!

I hope you all had a great Christmas. Mild weather continues for the next few days. Sunday the high will be near 70 before a very strong cold front moves in. Thunderstorms are expected with some strong to severe storms possible. Sunday night temps plummet into the teens and we'll see a chance for some wintry precipitation. More on this as we get closer. Enjoy the next few days!

Then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say...

That there's a dense fog advisory for much of the area until 10 am! Use caution if you are out and about this evening or early tomorrow morning. Use your low beams or fog lights, increase your following distance, and reduce your speed.

Expect highs in the 50s for the next few days. A cold front will move through on Thuraday, bringing with it showers and thunderstorms. A few storms could be strong to severe, but I don't expect an outbreak or anything. High temps plummet back down into the 30s on Friday, but then quickly rebound to the mid to upper 50s on Saturday. It looks like these more mild temps will persist through the end of 2025, meaning there is no real chance at seeing a white Christmas this year.

12/15/2025

A big warm up is on the way, with highs in the 50s starting on Tuesday. Long range outlooks are not playing nice for anyone hoping to see a white Christmas this year. It's definitely not looking great, as above normal temperatures look to continue as we wrap up 2025.

Okay, so a few interesting things are seen here in this RadarOmega screenshot. First off is the hole in the middle. That hole is present because of dry air. As the beam leaves the radar (KLSX), it gets further from ground due to the curvature of the Earth (sorry flat-earthers). The closer to the radar the precipitation appears, the lower the precipitation is falling. When the hole finally closes up, precipitation is reaching the radar (KLSX). Precipitation is falling over the radar, but the lower atmosphere is so dry that it all evaporates before reaching the ground. As more precipitation falls, the atmosphere becomes more saturated and eventually becomes saturated enough for the precipitation to reach the ground.

Another thing we can clearly see here is the transition line from rain (green) to snow (blue). Notice how it cuts right through the middle of the Metro East? This is how you can end up with all rain at your house but across town can end up with several inches of snow. It's impossible to know exactly where this line will be, but forecasters can usually get pretty close. Unfortunately pretty close can mean entire counties get a busted forecast.

What are you seeing right now? Snow, rain, or still dry?
