Debuting this May at the Marché du Film, The Colour of Cannes Honours is launching with one mission: creating intentional space for filmmakers and creative leaders of color to be seen, connected, and celebrated on a global stage.

Inspired by the 70th anniversary of Carmen Jones — the groundbreaking 1954 film starring Dorothy Dandridge and Harry Belafonte — the initiative blends legacy with forward movement, spotlighting culture-forward storytelling and the people pushing the industry forward.

The inaugural celebration will include VIP receptions, industry panels, networking opportunities, and honors recognizing leaders making an impact across film and media. Among them is Crystine Zhang, who will receive the Vanguard Award.

As conversations around representation continue across entertainment, Colour of Cannes is positioning itself as more than an event — it’s a statement about access, visibility, and who gets to shape the future of cinema.

What stories from underrepresented filmmakers deserve more global attention right now?

Big congratulations to Kwofe Coleman on being named one of seven honorary degree recipients for Washington University in St. Louis’ 2026 commencement ceremony.

This year’s honorees also include Andy Cohen, Michael McDonald, Deborah E. Lipstadt, Marcus E. Raichle Sr., Anabeth C. Weil, and John D. Weil.

A 2016 Delux Power 100 Awardee, Coleman started at The Muny as a teenager in 1998 and became the first African-American president and CEO in the theater’s 100+ year history.

The St. Louis native has helped lead a new era for The Muny centered around growth, diversity, and community outreach — continuing to make one of the city’s most iconic institutions more inclusive and accessible for all.

“The Love You Save” is a song by The Jackson 5, released in 1970 as a single and included on their album ABC by Motown Records. Written and produced by The Corporation (Berry Gordy, Freddie Perren, Alphonzo Mizell, and Deke Richards), the track is a pop-soul hit with a runtime of 3:04. It features Michael Jackson’s lead vocals, with brothers Jermaine, Tito, Marlon, and Jackie on harmonies, backed by Motown’s Funk Brothers, including James Jamerson on bass and Gene Pello on drums. The lyrics, delivered with youthful energy, warn a girl against reckless romances, using playful metaphors like traffic signals. Released on May 13, 1970, with “I Found That Girl” as the B-side, it topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks and reached #1 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart.

Recorded at Hitsville West in Los Angeles, “The Love You Save” was the third of four consecutive #1 hits for The Jackson 5 in 1970, following “I Want You Back” and “ABC.” Its upbeat tempo, catchy hooks, and tight production epitomized Motown’s bubblegum soul sound, cementing the group’s teen idol status. The song’s success helped ABC peak at #4 on the Billboard 200. Frequently performed on TV shows like American Bandstand, it remains a staple of their early catalog, covered by artists like Hanson and featured in media like Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).

Reading with children is about so much more than learning words — it’s about connection, confidence, emotional security, and lifelong well-being.

In a conversation with Ready Readers, Executive Director Angela Sears-Spittal and Program Director Maggie Strube, they share how early literacy directly impacts children’s mental and emotional development from birth.

“Nearly 90% of brain development happens in the first five years of life,” Angela explained. “Those loving interactions with caregivers help build the foundation for literacy, learning, and resilience.”

And the message to parents is simple: there is no “perfect” way to read.

Reading can look like pointing at pictures, singing songs, making silly voices, telling stories from memory, or simply letting your child hear your voice throughout the day.

“What matters most is the connection, the conversation, and the consistency,” Angela shared.

Maggie also reminded families that literacy moments happen naturally every day — during bedtime, errands, walks, or even reading a cereal box at breakfast.

“Even if your child can’t understand every word, they understand that you’re there — and that matters enormously.”

Ready Readers continues bringing books, Storytimes, and literacy resources directly into neighborhoods, classrooms, and homes across the St. Louis region, distributing more than 170,000 new books last year alone.

Delux interviewed community leader and Black Wall Street 314 founder Farrakhan Shegog for a powerful conversation centered on leadership, economic development, and the future of Black communities in St. Louis.

One of the biggest takeaways from the interview? The reminder that “all movement is not progress.” Farrakhan breaks down the difference between activity and intentional growth — and why sustainable community transformation requires vision, accountability, and ownership.

The conversation also explores his long-term vision for “parallel prosperity,” a model where commercial corridor development and residential community growth happen together — not separately.

“Our communities are dictated by the type of leadership we have but further identified by how we respond to that leadership.”

This interview goes beyond conversation. It’s a blueprint for thinking bigger about what investment, leadership, and economic empowerment can truly look like in St. Louis and beyond.

Mental health support can’t always wait.

In our latest conversation, Tiffany Lacy Clark breaks down how BHR’s RESPONSE platform is bringing real-time mental health intervention directly into schools — giving students immediate access to wellness tools, peer support, and crisis care when they need it most.

With 1 in 3 adolescents experiencing a mental health disorder, RESPONSE is focused on turning awareness into action through barrier-free support, prevention resources, and rapid intervention.

“Every moment counts during a crisis.”
