is advancing high-speed rail with a new maglev train that uses magnets to levitate above the tracks, allowing for faster, more efficient travel. A recently unveiled prototype hit 650 km/h (400 mph), with plans to reach 800 km/h (nearly 500 mph)—fast enough to make a – trip possible in just two hours, if the infrastructure existed.

The train starts on rubber wheels and lifts off once it hits high speeds, hovering just under half an inch above the track. Showcased at a rail congress in Beijing, the project is expected to be completed by year’s end.

While and the U.S. face delays, China already operates the world’s fastest commercial maglev, the Shanghai-Hangzhou line, at 431 km/h (265 mph).

Dubai startup Xpanceo, founded by Roman Axelrod and Valentyn Volkov, has secured $250 million in Series A funding to advance its development of smart contact lenses equipped with features like night vision, zoom, and realtime health tracking.
The round, led by Opportunity Venture (Asia) Ltd., pushes the company's valuation to $1.35 billion.
Launched in 2021, Xpanceo plans to have a clinical trial-ready prototype by late 2026, aiming to position its XR-powered lenses as potential replacements for smartphones and smartwatches.
Xpanceo joins a growing field of tech giants like Meta-with its Ray-Ban smart glasses-and
Apple, which is expected to launch its own smart eyewear by 2026.
