The music world is mourning the loss of one of their own. Walter Scott, who rose to fame as a member of the legendary soul group, The Whispers, has died, this according to New York’s WBLS - FM.

As one of the co-founding members of the act, Scott, along with his twin brother, ‘Scotty’, gave us a string of hits in the late 70’s and early 80’s. One of their signature songs, “And The Beat Goes On,” would later be introduced to a younger audience, when Will Smith sampled it in his hit “Miami”. It also appeared in the video game, “GTA: Vice City”.

The Whispers saw top ten success on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1987, with “Rock Steady.” Both of the previously mentioned songs topped the R&B Chart.

Among his accomplishments, was an induction into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, with The Whispers.

Scott was 81, at the time of his passing. His memory lives on through his music.

Roy on Dean Hill:

“Mr. Hill is my musical father. He’s a drummer, but can play trumpet like you’d never believe. I used to love to hear him play because he had a really fiery sound.

He’s the one who showed me how to improvise. He’d show you a lick and then get out of you more than just a series of notes.

I’d learn the notes, go home and practice. And when it came time to perform, he would be standing next to you, cheering you on to make you play with emotion. This was the foundation of my learning how to play with as much emotion as possible.“
