After more than six years of bankruptcy, Stamford-based Purdue Pharma, the maker of OxyContin, is set to enact a $7.4 billion settlement plan.

Since the company filed for bankruptcy in 2019, Norwalk resident Dede Yoder’s involvement in the proceedings has amounted to a de facto second job.

Her son, Chris, died at age 21 in 2017 from an overdose of fentanyl and carfentanil. He had struggled for years with opioid addiction, which started, Yoder said, after he was prescribed OxyContin as a teenager.

“It’s been a very long, painful and frustrating journey,” Yoder said. “I’m happy there’s a settlement, but it’s a hollow victory.”
