Hate is viral, and we need to do everything we can to combat it.

I hope with all my heart and mind that people of every background can unite to confront two problems plaguing our world today: Hate and Authoritarianism.

And when I'm not just sitting around hoping, I try to use my voice every now and then.

I like to use recycled boxes whenever I can, so every now and then, a big order ends up looking like this! 😊💚

I pack every box safely with foam padding and (occasionally) my son's children magazine. It's good to recycle when you can!

So surreal (and fun!) to see the books pop up in store. Many bookstores won't work with small publishers no matter how fancy I make my letterhead, but I am very grateful to stores that have taken a chance on my work!

The first picture is in front of Reach and Teach book store in San Carlos, California. The owner, Craig Wiesner, is very kind and has a very proactive Bluesky account.

The second picture is in Winnie & Mo's in... *drum roll* ... Idaho Falls, Idaho! Thank you for your support ❣️

I loved working with such fun people!

and I spent 3 months experimenting with style, design, and story flow. From there, we spent another four months perfecting our pages, and then re-perfecting them after layering on the yarn lettering. We especially wanted to give the lettering space to breathe alongside our story art.

brought so much expertise in designing the letter art for the pages and the cover! In the pages, we wanted graceful, playful yarn lettering that would contrast well against our bulky, block letters that pop up for the Ostrich scenes. On the cover, we wanted to bridge the worlds of our cursive and block texts, while making the books core message—Everyone Can Wear a Dress!—pop into focus. I think Ann did such a fantastic job capturing the books themes in her lettering!

With spring just around the corner, I thought I would share a poem I wrote two years ago around this time. My son is still as boisterous as ever—I wish I shared more of his excitement for helicopter seeds and climbing rocks. Sometimes, I wish he shared more of my excitement for naps. We have things to teach each other for sure.
