This is my nomination for SILive's most inspirational athlete: . Bill Welsh is 88 years old and was told he had 6 months to live , 8 years ago. he thumbed his nose at the Cancer Oncologists all and competes in 5K and more races EVERY weekend , in addition to Masters Decathlons [10 events} throughout the Northeast.Bill drives up to Sloan Kettering every week to get his Chemotherapy , and although it makes him very tired, it doesn't slow him down.Bill is a S.I. Sports Hall of Fame coach who has coached Olympians, National record holders and countless NYS and NYC champions and is a second father to many who were in need of a male role model at the tender age of HS athletes. people come from as far as as FallujaH and Los Angeles to celebrate his birthday every year. WE LOVE HIM !
I will like to nominate Nicholas Mejia an 8 yr old that plays flag football for 911 flag and is a player of the 3rd grade Giants. Nicholas takes football very seriously. He takes time out of his busy days practicing so he can be ready for the game. Nicholas is fast and furious on the field and many times got the job done by getting his team the touchdown to win. He lives and breathes football. He will watch old youtube videos of old NFL players to study there footwork and try to replica the player on the field. I would love to nominated Nicholas Mejia. He is the next superstar. My name is Marie Battista 718-689-0126
I nominate Nick Fiorentino as the next superstar athlete. He is an all around outstanding athlete who excels is all sports. More importantly, he is a great kid who is smart, witty and respectful! Nicholas will go on to do great things! He is truly a superstar! At the age of 11, he has rocked the mound, the basketball court and football fields of Staten Island! Go Nicky!
