Headed into 2026, I’ve been thinking a lot about the kind of photographer I want to be this year.
On the way to the Tulsa Farm Show — on Riata’s birthday — she told me (for the second time) that she wants to be a photographer like Aunt Meagan. And sure… maybe some of it is because I’m the one sitting next to her — but she is surrounded by incredible photographers she looks up to, including Baleigh, who is one of the best wedding photographers I know. She has these strong creative women in her life — and somewhere in that mix, she’s decided she wants to be “like Aunt Meagan.” Hearing her say it — and say it again — just hits different.
And this year, she added a little camera ornament to her Christmas tree. I’ve been in and out of Morgan and Dillon’s house for holiday things and housesitting — and every time I walk past that tree, that tiny camera catches my eye.
It’s a reminder that it’s making an impact.
Whether I realize it in the moment or not.
And then there’s David — grabbing my camera more and more, asking questions, wanting to learn settings and editing, starting to fall in love with it the same way I did.
Somewhere along the way I realized… little eyes are watching how we create.
So headed into 2026 —
I want to be the photographer she thinks I am.
And the kind of photographer he feels inspired to learn from.
To all the photographers out there —
may we be the ones the littles can look up to. 🤍
