❤️ Y’all know how much I LOVE traveling with my grands—there’s really nothing that makes me happier. And, although we are barely back from our latest skip generation travel adventure at Callaway Resort & Gardens, my grands are asking to go back! That is how you know it was a GOOD trip!

🐿️ Here are some of the things that we included in our weekend trip to Callaway Resort that the kids loved and we would definitely do again! And, if you are a homeschooling parent, note that many of these activities are both hands-on and educational!

🍂 The first thing we did was a Pink Jeep Tour and it blew us away! Our driver was so much fun and super knowledgeable. I feel like she gave us so many tidbits of information that we might have otherwise never known. We made several stops for exploring and photo ops, and we had a really good lay of the land by the end. Highly recommend!

🦚 We loved our time exploring the Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel. This lovely chapel was planned by Cason Callaway himself as a tribute to his mother. The setting was perfect with both woods and water surrounding the chapel which was inspired by 16th century Gothic chapels. The stained glass windows really steal the show with nods to Georgia pines and other local hard and soft woods. It is a must-visit in our book!

🦋 The Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center was a hit with us (so much that we went twice)! The center is home to more than 1000 butterflies at any given time and we even got up close and personal with the famous Blue Morpho butterflies! One of North America’s largest tropical butterfly conservatories, it’s beautiful and well worth your time!

🦅 The Birds of Prey Show is a highlight for visitors and our granddaughter spoke to the staff about the resident eagles, owls, hawks and more after the show. Be sure and look for Franklin, a 10-year-old bald eagle who makes his home at Callaway.

🐞 My grands gained so much knowledge in what I thought would just be a quick walk-through of the Bug Encounter. They used microscopes to view insect slides, checked out all the insects and animals in aquarium settings, and learned about the four most poisonous snakes in North America.

💦 There are three pools on property with one being very close to our cottage so we enjoyed a little pool time before taking off for an evening of fun with 🎃 Pumpkins at Callaway—more on that in its own separate post.

🚙 This was a such a fantastic trip about 2 1/2 hours from Birmingham in Pine Mountain, Georgia. It’s also an easy trip to plan and let the kiddos take the lead on a lot of the activities. Today, September 1, 2026, Carnival Cruise Line kicked off their all-new loyalty program—𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗔𝗟 𝗥𝗘𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗗𝗦. It is, by design, an opportunity for not only Carnival enthusiasts to achieve status and earn rewards, but also encourage first-time cruisers to start building loyalty towards the brand.

🍎 Every trip to Sevierville (in the Smoky Mountains) means a meal at the Apple Barn. And, during our latest trip we switched it up a little and visited Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant & Grill for breakfast instead of an evening meal on the property. It was a great choice!

🍏 Every meal here starts with a serving of Apple Julep, Apple Fritters, and Apple Butter! If you know, you know. If you don’t, you will after one visit. There’s plenty to choose from such as biscuits and gravy with sausage, bacon or ham to eggs, breakfast potatoes, pancakes, waffles, and more! See our photos below to see what we picked!

🍎 The Apple Barn complex, as I like to call it, offers two restaurants, a winery, a creamery and candy factory, the Apple Barn general store (operating out of what was originally an early 1900s cattle barn), a Christmas and candle shop, plus wonderful pathways to stroll the huge complex comfortably. The property runs alongside the Little Pigeon River where nice walks and beautiful scenery are always in season. Also, you can’t miss the lovely apple orchards in view, which the farm relies on as part of the farm-to-table experience served up daily at the Apple Barn.

🍏 The Apple Barn and C***r Mill is owned by the Kilpatrick and Hicks families and has so much to offer! If you don’t have time for a meal, stop in the General Store and grab some goodies for the road. You won’t be sorry!

With heavy hearts, the Dollywood family mourns the passing of our beloved Dreamer-in-Chief, Dolly Parton. Everyone at Dollywood shares the sorrow of countless people around the world touched by Dolly's warmth, wisdom and generous spirit.

Dolly's heartfelt wish was that Dollywood always remain a place of joy, hope and togetherness—a space where families and friends could honor her memory, not with silence, but with laughter, music and shared dreams.

“The greatest privilege of my life has been helping Dolly bring her dreams to life at Dollywood,” said Eugene Naughton, Dollywood Parks & Resorts President. “Dolly's heart was as vast as the mountains she cherished, and her compassion knew no bounds. 🥞 The Old Mill Restaurant is a historic icon in Pigeon Forge and for good reason! It was built on the banks of the Little Pigeon River right beside a working grist mill from the 1830s. And, on our most recent visit, we were lucky enough to have a table overlooking the river.

☕️ We love having breakfast at The Old Mill Restaurant. Southern comfort foods prepared from recipes that have stood the test of time, keep the tables full and the waiting list long.

🍳 We had big helpings (that we could not finish, mind you) of biscuits, country sausage gravy, pancakes, ham, bacon, sausage, grits, fried potatoes, scrambled farm fresh eggs, and Banana Nut Muffins (served with all entrees). But, there are other choices if these don’t strike your fancy. You can get French toast, omelets, oatmeal, fruit, and quiche.

🍴Here’s the thing, though. We’ve eaten breakfast here often, but not lunch or dinner. If you have, drop me a comment and tell me about it…what did you have, how was it?

🥃 Lastly, the restaurant is only one part of The Old Mill complex. There’s also The Old Mill Creamery, Pottery House Cafe, The Old Mill Candy Kitchen, The Old Mil Farmhouse Kitchen, the General Store, Sassafrass Boutique, Pigeon River Pottery, and the Old Forge Distillery.
