I don’t know who needs to hear this, but Dollar Tree is currently selling giant plastic Easter eggs, and I may have accidentally found the perfect chicken-keeper hack. 😂🐓

I’ve been trying to find a way to keep the girls from hopping up and p**ping all over the lid of my feed bucket. Tractor Supply didn’t have any of those fitted cone tops in stock, and Amazon wanted around $25 for one, which felt a little ridiculous for something that’s just supposed to stop chicken p**p from landing where it doesn’t belong.

Then I found these giant plastic Easter eggs at Dollar Tree.

For $5, I got two of them, split one in half, and set one half right on top of the feed bucket. It fits surprisingly well, looks hilarious, and so far it’s doing exactly what I needed it to do. Now instead of a flat bucket lid that apparently screams “perfect chicken perch,” they’ve got a big pink egg dome blocking the landing zone. 😂

And before anyone asks — it’s been sitting there for two days completely unsecured, and they still haven’t knocked it off or p**ped on it.

Cheap, simple, ridiculous-looking, and effective. That’s my kind of chicken coop upgrade. 🐔🥚✨

Ten perfectly good nesting boxes.

Ten. Nice. Comfortable. Actual. Nesting boxes.

And yet, one of the hens looked at all of those options and said, “No thank you, I choose architectural difficulty.” 😂🐔

Somehow, she managed to lay this beautiful little egg way up on top of a random wooden post in the corner of the coop, like she was placing a tiny blue trophy on a pedestal. Not in straw. Not in a box. Not anywhere that makes sense. Just balanced up there like it was part of an art installation.

Honestly, I’m not even mad. I’m kind of impressed.

Chickens really do wake up every day and ask themselves, “How can I make my human question everything?” Because this was definitely not on my list of expected egg locations.

At this point, I don’t know whether to move it, frame it, or give her a score for creativity. 😂🥚✨

Nothing like walking outside and having your heart drop because you think you just found 10 “unalive” chickens scattered all over the yard… only to realize they are perfectly fine and just having a dramatic little spa day. 😂😂🐔

I swear, chickens have absolutely no sense of how terrifying they look when they dust bathe. They find a sunny patch of dirt, flop over like they’ve given up on life, stretch out, go completely still, and then act confused when you panic.

I came outside ready to be traumatized, thinking something horrible had happened to the whole flock. Instead, they were all just lounging under the tree, rolling in the dirt, soaking up the sunshine, and living their best chicken spa life.

Meanwhile, I’m over here recovering from the mini heart attack they just gave me. 😂

Life with chickens: one minute you think there’s a disaster, the next minute you realize they’re just exfoliating. 🐓✨

What in the fluffy butt did I bring home from Tractor Supply?! 😂🐥

This little one was sold to me as a bantam, but I swear she did not come with all this extra feather drama when I first got her. She started out as a tiny little mystery chick, and now she’s turning into a full-on feather-footed diva with attitude, personality, and enough fluff to make me question everything.

Those fuzzy feet are absolutely ridiculous in the best way, and she already acts like she knows she’s special. She has a huge personality for such a little bird and seems to believe the entire brooder exists purely for her comfort and entertainment.

As for our relationship, she likes me… but only under very specific conditions. Mostly when I show up with snacks. No treats? No friendship. Treats in hand? Suddenly I’m acceptable. 😂

So now I’m left wondering what exactly I ended up with, because “bantam” feels like only part of the story. Whatever she is, she’s adorable, dramatic, fluffy, and already running the place. 🐔✨

To my neighbors — or anyone else who may have had the unfortunate privilege of witnessing the absolute chaos that unfolded in my backyard this afternoon — please allow me to explain. 😂

It all started so innocently. I went outside to check the chicken coop for eggs. All the chickens were safely hanging out in the outside part of their secured run, so I thought, “You know what? This would be a perfect time to give them a little handful of treats.”

So I grabbed the chicken treat bucket, opened the run door, and started tossing snacks like the generous chicken servant I am.

That was the exact moment one rogue chicken saw her opportunity.

Even though I was literally standing in the doorway handing out treats, she decided the cracked-open door was her grand escape route. She bolted straight out of the secure pen and into the magical open wilderness known as… **the backyard**.

Unfortunately, Rocky, our dog, was standing nearby and immediately decided this was his moment to become a professional chicken herder. Except he was not herding. He was chasing.

So there we were: chicken sprinting across the yard, Rocky chasing the chicken, and me chasing both of them while screaming, “ROCKY, STOP!” and smacking his backside with the yellow plastic chicken snack bucket — which is actually just an old Dollar Tree Easter basket. 😂

Chicken treats were flying everywhere. I was waving the bucket around like a lunatic. Rocky was in full pursuit. The chicken was making questionable life choices. It was a full backyard circus.

Eventually, the chicken cornered herself on the back patio and hopped up onto the windowsill. Somehow, in the middle of all this, she had managed to get completely soaked, probably from running through the pond.

I finally shoved Rocky back through his doggy door into the house, threw the bucket down, and scooped up the wet, traumatized chicken. But of course, Rocky pushed his way right back out and chased both of us all the way to the chicken pen.

Thankfully, I got her back inside safely and completely unharmed — aside from whatever emotional damage she caused herself during her dramatic backyard adventure.

So, if you saw me running around with a yellow chicken bucket, yelling at Rocky, and looking like I had fully lost control of my life… now you know why.

And after all of that?

There were no eggs in the coop. 😂🐔🪣

My girls have been freeloading for a while thanks to the cold temps here in Oklahoma… but one of them finally made up for it today. 😂

She gifted me this absolute giant of an egg, and wow — I bet she’s walking a little carefully after that one. Maybe she won’t hold them in so long next time.

I was so curious I had to crack it open, and it had **one huge yolk** inside. What a monster egg!

I officially sold out Tractor Supply. 🤣🤣😵‍💫

There are **five** Tractor Supply stores within about 20 miles of me, and I’ve been calling all week. Before anyone asks, yes, I was nice and patient with the workers. 🫣

Today they finally got chicks in, so my son and I went. The parking lot was packed, and there were only 13 left… so naturally, we bought all 13. 🤦‍♀️

So now I can finally say I sold out Tractor Supply. 😂

We brought home **10 Easter Eggers and 3 Olive Eggers**, and here are two of the little cuties. Last July I was told I could get 12 chickens… now I have 76.

But honestly, who’s counting? 🤷‍♀️😵‍💫

Here’s a better picture of the situation. Neither my hen nor the mama cat wanted to give up the nest, so apparently they decided to share custody. One broody hen, a pile of kittens, and absolutely nobody willing to move.

Possibly a dumb question, but I’m new to having a rooster.

I have 7 hens and just added this guy to the flock. If I’m hoping for baby chicks in the spring, do I just wait and hope nature does its thing? All of my hens are laying, but none of them have gone broody so far.

One week ago, we had a hawk incident and lost one of our chickens. Afterward, I discovered a small space under the coop where the chickens could hide — and where a predator could possibly get in. Three of them came out from under there after the scare, which is how I even found the gap.

I planned to cover it with hardware cloth, but decided to wait a few more days just in case the missing chicken was somehow hiding under there and hadn’t actually been taken. I didn’t have much hope.

Then yesterday, a full week later, I swear I heard a chicken under the coop… and there she was. My baby girl Nugget was alive under there. 😭

I had to dig and cut a rescue hole to get her out, but I got her. She was very hungry, very thirsty, and very traumatized. After she ate and drank, she would not let me put her down, so I held and cuddled her for hours.

Now I need advice from the more experienced chicken folks. Once I finally put her down, the rest of the flock was being seriously awful to her, bad enough that I separated her. I have a small enclosed brooder area built inside the coop, so I put her in there yesterday. She seemed content to just sleep, eat, and repeat all day.

Was separating her the right call? And how long should I keep her there before trying to reintroduce her?

Pics of my sweet girl after her rescue. 🐓❤️
