Movie Review: To Kill A Monkey
Part 1
(Rating: 8.5/10)

The series To Kill A Monkey isn’t just a movie — it’s a moral crossroads. It asks: when good men face bad choices, what happens? How far will you go when everything is on the line? This is Nigerian cinema, not trying to impress — but trying to "say" something.

‎If you're tired of predictable plots and flat characters, this one's for you. If you want to be moved, disturbed, and deeply impressed — add it to your watchlist.

Adaora thought she had found peace in Tayo, the smooth-talking tech bro with dimples and dreams.

They met during a fuel scarcity queue in Lekki — both sweating, both frustrated, both laughing through the madness. From there, it was midnight suya runs, beach dates, and whispered promises over sweet kisses. Tayo said she was his “forever software,” the one he’d never uninstall.

But Lagos is a city that moves fast… and hides secrets faster.

One rainy Thursday, chilling in Tayo's Lekki home, Adaora borrowed Tayo’s iPad to order jollof rice and grilled turkey. A notification popped up, “Can’t wait to taste you again 😍", Precious.

Her fingers trembled.

Precious wasn’t just anyone. She was Adaora’s best friend. Flatmate. Sister-from-another-mother. The one who helped her pick out the dress she wore on her first date with Tayo.

Betrayal? It burned hotter than Lagos sun at noon.

Adaora didn’t cry. She didn’t confront. Instead, she waited.

That Sunday, they all went to lunch in Ikoyi. Midway through hot jollof rice, she raised her wine glass, smiled sweetly, and said, “To the two people I loved the most… may your lies last longer than Lagos traffic.”

And with that, she stood, dropped the apartment keys on the table, and walked out — leaving silence, guilt, and two traitors choking on their guilt.

In Lagos, love can be loud.
But betrayal? It echoes.

THIRD MAINLAND LIES - END

Amaka was running late for her first job interview in Lagos. She had no ride, no Bolt, and definitely no time. In full panic mode, she flagged down the nearest keke napep (tricycle), climbed in, and screamed, “Oga, please fly this thing like helicopter!”

The driver turned around—and he was gorgeous. Not just “fine boy” type, but the kind of fine that makes you forget your CV at home. His name tag read "Dayo."

“I no dey fly, but I sabi dodge potholes like I trained in the army,” he said with a wink.

They sped through traffic, dodging danfos and okadas, while Amaka shouted directions like a GPS on Red Bull. Dayo kept cracking jokes, making her laugh so hard she forgot how nervous she was.

He dropped her off with 3 minutes to spare.

“Wait,” she said, breathless. “Can I… pay with a smile? I forgot my wallet.”

He grinned. “That smile paid double.”

She didn’t get the job, but she got something better. Dayo showed up outside her compound the next day with puff-puff and a note: “Even if life no give you job, I go give you joy.”

Three years later, she walked down the aisle—not to a CEO, but to the “keke driver” who turned out to be a business school graduate running his own Keke logistics startup, testing his ideas firsthand.

Turns out, love really can find you in traffic—especially if he knows how to dodge potholes and steal your heart.

I'm always known for being composed. Never cried at movies, never panicked under pressure. So when my wedding day arrived, everyone expected me to glide through it like royalty.

Everything was perfect—until it came time to say “I do.”

The officiating minister turned to me. “Do you, Kemi, take Femi to be your lawfully wedded husband?”

I opened my mouth to speak… but nothing came out.

“Babe?” Femi whispered, half-worried, half-amused.

Still nothing. My lips moved slightly, but the mic didn’t catch a thing.

Guests leaned in. My mother reached for her fan. Femi’s best man mouthed, “Did she just bail?”

Truth is, I lost my voice at that instance.

The officiating minister turned to me again. “Do you, Kemi, take Femi to be your lawfully wedded husband?”

Then came the softest whisper: “I do.”

“Sorry?” the officiant said, leaning closer.

I cleared my throat, finally breaking into a nervous laugh. “I do! I just… couldn’t believe this was really happening. It hit me all at once. I’m marrying my best friend.”

The room melted. Femi grinned, teary-eyed, and replied, “You can whisper your vows for the rest of our lives if you want… just don’t whisper when it’s your turn to wash plates.”

Everyone laughed. And from that moment, whenever I got angry and I want to vent, Femi would lean in, smile, and say, “Use your whisper voice, my queen.”

It was the morning of my wedding, and everything was running smoothly—until Chuka my husband to be, realized he had brought "two left shoes". Not just any shoes, but his custom white loafers with “Mr. Right” embroidered on one side. The irony was painful.

In a panic, his best man ran off in search of a similar size shoe from any living soul in the hotel. Meanwhile, me in the suite, calming my nerves and trying not to cry over my makeup because my bouquet hadn’t arrived yet. It was a mess—until my younger cousin strolled in with a random bunch of supermarket roses and said, “This looked fancy, so I picked it for you.” Somehow, it worked.

Back downstairs, already running late, Chuka ended up wearing one dress shoe and one sneaker—both white, of course. He walked down the aisle like a man who had made peace with fashion disgrace.

When I finally arrived, radiant and calm, I took one look at his feet, burst into laughter, and whispered, “You really are my better half… I see you brought both of mine.”

During the vows, Chuka said, “I may never get it all right—even my shoes—but I’ll always show up for you, mismatched and all.”

Tears and laughter filled the room. And every anniversary after, we tell the story of "the groom with two left feet”—who still got it absolutely right.

Everyone expected Sarah and Tunde’s wedding to be elegant and perfect. What no one expected was that the best man, Kunle, would accidentally switch the printed vows with his "stand-up comedy set"—yes, the one he'd prepared for open mic night.

As the officiating minister asked Tunde to read his vows, he cleared his throat, looked deep into Sarah’s eyes, and began:

"From the moment I saw you, I knew you were the one… who could finish a whole bowl of amala faster than I could. You are my spicy pepper soup, my jollof queen, my eternal Wi-Fi connection."

The guests erupted in laughter. Sarah raised an eyebrow, trying to stay composed. Tunde looked confused halfway through but pressed on bravely until he got to:

"And even if you snore louder than my generator during fuel scarcity, I will always choose you."

At this point, Sarah burst into laughter—and then tears. “This is so stupid,” she sobbed, laughing. “But it’s so us.”

Kunle, mortified, stood up waving the real vows. “I’m so sorry! I mixed up the papers!”

But Sarah grabbed Tunde’s hands and said, " That’s the vow I want.” Pretty Ladies ARENA

They kissed, the guests cheered, and Kunle never got to tell his jokes at open mic night. Because honestly?
