In the end, to embrace the macabre is not to flirt with death—it is to make love to life, in all its grotesque, aching beauty.

Shake.
Shake from the electric horror of your ghost.
It moves without warning.
It breathes and breeds in joyful contempt of existence.
Shake.
Convulse and seize with the pleasure of gravitational correction and teeth that are up flesh from bones.
Agony. Ecstasy. Fear. Primordial awe.
Shake.
Quake.
React.
Gasp.
Claw.
Burn.
Breathe, and again. And again.

Creeping in the corners of the mind…
Lingering in the closets, the attics and basements of the soul…
The discarded pieces of a whole.
Rattling at the bottoms of boxes, long forgotten…
They whisper and keep you up at night.
Breathe life to the dead…

Can’t. Won’t. Shouldn’t. Wouldn’t.
Never have I ever.
I couldn’t imagine…
Death. S*x. R**e. Hate.
Abortion. Murder. Blood. W***e.
Racism. Pregnancy. Ageism. Poverty.
Mental illness. Religious stillness.
It’s all subjective isn’t it? Is it?
What we challenge we change.
For good or evil…silence or rage.
Are we helping or hurting…when we uncage the caged.

We fade. We falter.
We stumble and crumble and fall.
We are buildings and structures made of rust.
We are spirits on fire inside of bones meant to splinter.
We breathe sparks and set fires and burn.

There is grace in the way petals wither.
They do not beg to stay like desperate lovers.
Rust, rot, and ruin…a slow surrender.
Fruit softening in the sun collapses into the mouth of the earth…
A sensual death, yet pulsating birth beneath the surface.
A dark womb of waiting.
Even the bones know…they bleach, bend, and break brittle…yet grow beautiful in their emptiness.
A void vibrating with potential.

When did we grow to fear the things which teach us how to let go?

The tangled embrace of decay echoes the essence of creation. Matter collides and life begins, drawing breath, energy, and attention until it is overcome and falls to pieces.

Where does the electricity lie between the living and the dead?
What moves you and your pen?
What aches in your bones, your hands, and your head?
Static. Nothing but static.
And the buzz crackles loudly and says “put on wool socks and let’s dance”.
