Emergency Siren Testing set for Monday, May 20. Read below⬇️ for times and schedule.

Emergency Siren Testing, Monday May 20!
There will be testing of Sunriver’s emergency siren system on Monday, May 20 between the hours of 12pm and 1:30pm (all times approximate).

Primary testing of the system will begin at noon with a continuous blast of all sirens throughout Sunriver. The sirens will sound for approximately 2 minutes.

This will be followed by individual testing of each of Sunriver’s five siren towers - working south to north. There will be an approximately 10-15 minute pause between each tower test with each blast lasting a minute or longer.

Towers are located at the following locations, south to north:
• Off Fairway Lane
• Near SHARC’s basketball parking lot off Theater Drive
• At the Sunriver Fire Station
• At Holy Trinity Church
• In Circle 6

Read Notice below:
Smoke will be visible in the Sunriver area due to a fire training program today May 2. More information below from Sunriver Fire and Rescue.

Smoke will be visible in Sunriver and surrounding areas today and tomorrow from a wildfire training exercise west of Sunriver.

The Central Oregon Fire Instructors Association (COFIA) in cooperation with the US Forest Service and Central Oregon Fire Management Service, will be hosting a two-day wildfire training program for Central Oregon firefighters on Thursday and Friday, May 2-3.

For years, COFIA and other agencies sponsored the COWS (Central Oregon Wildfire School) wildfire training program that provided outstanding experience in wildland fire response skill building. The program was discontinued several years ago due to cost and staffing. COWS is returning, in part, due to a grant from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.

The training will be taking place west of Sunriver on US Forest Service lands. These are lands that have been identified for prescribed burning. It is anticipated that up to 12 local, state and federal agencies will be participating with up to 8 personnel per agency.

With the upcoming fire season and countless devastating fires throughout our country during the last few years, it is imperative that our firefighters are afforded opportunities to hone their wildland firefighting skills with live fire drills such as COWS.
