Ahead of the inauguration, the President on Wednesday received a briefing on the final state of preparedness from the Minister of Transport, Rizik Zakaria Hassan, and the Director General of the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority, Dr. Ayiei Garang Deng.

Adut Kiir Reaffirms Commitment to Youth Empowerment Through Sports

The Senior Presidential Envoy on Special Programs, Adut Kiir, has reaffirmed her commitment to empowering South Sudanese youth through sports by supporting initiatives that identify, nurture, and promote emerging talent across the region.

According to her office, the “ASK in Sports” Basketball Tournament is one of the flagship programmes under her leadership, designed to create opportunities for young South Sudanese athletes while fostering unity, social cohesion, and stronger community ties both within the country and among the diaspora.

The office said the initiative has already successfully organized basketball and football tournaments in Kenya and Rwanda and is currently hosting a basketball championship in Uganda. The programme aims to ensure that talented South Sudanese athletes have a platform to showcase their skills and pursue their sporting ambitions, regardless of where they reside.

As the tournament reaches its climax, the Office of the Senior Presidential Envoy has congratulated the two finalist teams for their outstanding performances and encouraged South Sudanese living in Uganda to turn out in large numbers to support the players.

The championship final is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 28, at 1:00 p.m. at Lugogo Indoor Stadium in Kampala. Admission is free to all spectators.
