In most places, riding season fades.

In Alaska… it stops.

7 months. No miles. No engine. Just darkness.

But I’ve learned something up here in the North:

Darkness builds hunger.

And that’s why the first ride in May feels electric.

New YouTube video: Filmed during an Alaskan winter from my log cabin ❄️
This video breaks down what it’s really like to ride a motorcycle in Alaska — and why it’s far easier than most people think.

Routes, seasons, bears, weather, gravel vs pavement, and real road tips.
Alaska isn’t just for hardcore adventurers.

If you’ve been holding back, this one’s for you.
Nothing should stop you from riding Alaska. 🏍️

Slow down. Breathe. You’re not behind. (Watch my new short film on YouTube ➡️ link in bio.)

I usually share motorcycle adventures here — but winter in Alaska asks for a different kind of journey.

Winter in Alaska forces a different pace. The motorcycle is parked, the miles are quiet, and life has space to speak.

I’m a 54-year-old woman, a German living in Alaska for 25 years, separated, and moving through one of those seasons of deep change many of us face — especially as women in midlife. This short film isn’t about riding far. It’s about listening, healing, and remembering that change doesn’t mean failure.

If you’re navigating loss, reinvention, loneliness, or uncertainty — I see you. Nothing about this is wrong. It’s human.

In summer, I share moto-camping adventures across Alaska on my DR650. In winter, I slow down and reflect. This film is for anyone — especially women — who need a reminder that strength can be quiet, and forward motion doesn’t always look loud.

Thank you for being here. — Debbie

Not a gym — just Alaska.

When you live in Alaska, and the motorcycle is parked for winter, staying fit becomes part of daily life whether you like it or not.

Hello friends,

I want to take a moment to say thank you.
After sharing my solo moto-camping journey through Alaska and the Yukon, this community has grown in ways I didn’t expect—and I’m truly grateful for every comment, message, and quiet moment you’ve spent along the way.

Slow Down for Adventure is about more than motorcycles. It’s about living in the moment, noticing the small things, and finding joy—especially as we get older. It’s about getting back on a bike after 20 years away, starting again after 50, and discovering that two wheels can be a kind of therapy.

I’m a 54-year-old German-American living in Alaska since 2001, riding my DR650 through wild places when I can—and dreaming about new journeys when winter keeps the bike parked. In the colder months, I’ll be sharing more Alaska life, winter reflections, and eventually my art and graphic design work too.

My hope is to build a quiet, supportive space here—for riders, adventurers, creatives, and anyone who feels called to slow down and reconnect with life and all the little moments.
Time is the real currency—best spent awake and present.

Thank you for being here.
Where are you watching from, and what does slowing down for adventure mean to you?

— Debbie

A quick stop-motion breakdown of the minimalist moto camping kit I used on a 2,000-mile ride through Alaska and the Yukon. No fancy gear — just a real and light setup that survived northern miles, rough roads, and weeks of camping.

If you’re planning an adventure motorcycle trip or want ideas for lightweight ADV camping, here’s the whole kit in seconds.

Want to learn more? Watch my 5-minute video on YouTube.

Enjoy! 😊
