In October 2002, Matthew Ramsey and his wife, Sara, rented the house at 4026 Darlene Drive in Antioch from Travis Tritt’s drummer. The Ramseys didn’t have many requirements for a place to live, he says. They just needed "some sort of rental house that would allow us to have dogs."

A few months earlier, Ramsey had been working at Lynchburg Stained Glass in Virginia when one of Phil Vassar's sisters came into the store. Ramsey gave her a CD, she passed it along to her brother, and then she called and invited him to Nashville.

Ramsey’s first trip that August showed him the city. He went to Percy Priest Lake, had lunch at Sunset Grille, and saw Broadway. At the Bluebird Café, he watched Pat Alger and Jimmy Wayne play. Afterward, Vassar told him the same thing a lot of people tell aspiring musicians: If he wanted to rise above amateur status, occasional trips wouldn't cut it. He'd need to relocate.

"When he said that, I don't know if I heard anything else that night," Ramsey says. "I was just like, 'Okay, I gotta find us a place.'"

So he found one. In Antioch. That allowed dogs.

Ramsey met Trevor Rosen in 2003. They formed Old Dominion in 2007.
