🐍🟧🟩 FAMU’s fight is not over — it just moved forward.

For decades, HBCU advocates have said the same thing: our institutions were expected to produce greatness while being underfunded, overlooked, and forced to do more with less.

Now Florida A&M University students are getting another chance to make that case in court.

A federal appeals court has ruled that the lawsuit alleging Florida underfunded FAMU by nearly $2 billion over the past 30 years can move forward. That means the plaintiffs now get the opportunity to present evidence and argue whether decades of funding decisions created unequal treatment.

This is bigger than one university. This is about land-grant equity. It’s about historical accountability. It’s about whether HBCUs received the same investment and support they were owed.

Maryland already showed this conversation is real when it agreed to a $577 million settlement for its four HBCUs after decades of underfunding claims.

Now the spotlight turns to Florida.

FAMU has always produced leaders, culture, business owners, athletes, scholars, engineers, artists, and history — even when the resources did not match the impact.

So the question is simple:

If the evidence proves FAMU was shortchanged, what does accountability look like?
