The fight between the Group for Support of Islam/Muslims (JNIM) and the Islamic State (IS) within West African organizations globally ranks among the most lethal, as detailed in the latest JSOU Press Quick Look, “Unveiling Pervasive Patterns of Violence in West Africa,” authored by Christiane Thompson.

Since 2018, there has been a substantial escalation in violence in the Sahel area, predominantly attributed to the activities of violent extremist organizations (VEOs) in Mali, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Niger, and along the Burkina Faso-Benin border.
