A look at all 11 generations of the Honda Accord spanning 50 years of continuous production starting in 1976 with nearly 16 million units sold to date.

There were many variations of the Accord and Honda gave us access to these pristine examples, many of which were the first off the production line and destined for long-term storage rather than to be driven. All of these models were in driving condition and some were so brand new they didn’t even have 150 miles on them, which is to say a lot of work went into making these run so a big thanks to Honda and those who brought these cars back to life.

Examples shown:
1st: 1978 3-door
2nd: 1983 LX sedan
3rd: 1988 LXI coupe, MT
4th: 1993 LX sedan, 4AT
5th: 1994 EX coupe
6th: 1998 EX V6 sedan
7th: 2003 EX V6 coupe
8th: 2008 EXL V6 sedan
9th: 2014 Hybrid Touring sedan
10th: 2018 2.0T Touring
11th: 2026 Touring

It’s not as crazy as it sounds. Most GR86’s on the road are automatics. Car enthusiasts hate this comparison but for actual buyers… especially the 53% choosing an automatic GR86… it makes more sense than you think. Volume wise, this is a very tiny niche segment with Prelude targeting 300 US sales per month and automatic GR86 sales in 2025 averaging about 350 per month.

They’re both stylish two door coupes aimed at those who want more than a typical commuter.

*The GR86 is sportier, lighter, more powerful, and rear wheel drive.
*The Prelude is more comfortable, practical, and efficient.

They both handle very well with one benefiting from being light and the other utilizing overkill Civic Type R suspension components.

One has a rather clunky automatic, the other had a fake automatic.

The Honda Prelude has always been about introducing new technologies like four-wheel steering and torque vectoring. The 2026 Prelude brings us the new S+ that simulates an 8-speed automatic and using the paddle shifters you can simulate up shifts and down shifts for a more engaging driving experience
