While that’s an already impressive stat, consider that 100% of these students come from families with limited financial resources. Cristo Rey in Tampa is part of a national network of schools with a mission to break generational cycles of poverty by combining college preparatory coursework with corporate internships – starting at age 14.

13 million kids in the United States suffer from food insecurity, and 1 in 5 is hungry! Kudos to Feeding Tampa Bay for recently collecting almost 30K pounds of cereal to help fight summer hunger for kids in the community! We learned a ton about food insecurity, food deserts (and even food swamps) from our episode with the inspiring Thomas Mantz, who also shared the research that informed how the organization shifted its approach to better serve kids and their families.
