Once a lush tropical oasis in Kissimmee, World of Orchids featured thousands of stunning and rare orchids in a climate-controlled greenhouse filled with waterfalls, streams, and free-flying parrots. A scenic 1,000-foot boardwalk trailed off into the surrounding wetlands, adding to the experience.

Though it finally opened in March 1993 after delays and setbacks from Hurricane Andrew, the worst came in 2004 when Hurricane Charley tore through Florida and severely damaged the greenhouse. With no insurance and no funds to rebuild the unique structure, the roof was never replaced.

While the shop continued selling orchids, the once-vibrant greenhouse became a haunting shell of its former self, leaving visitors heartbroken at the state of what used to be a tropical paradise. World of Orchids would close its doors for good on July 15th, 2012.
