The long abandoned World of Orchids still remains in Orlando, FL just south of Disney World, in its deteriorating state.

Upon entering, everything is wildly overgrown. You can smell the stale air. Doors that haven’t opened in a decade creak for the first time. Specks of mold cling to the chairs that remain in the office. Small fish dart through the stale, murky ponds.

What’s left of the building is now teeming with graffiti, garbage, and broken planter pots.

Tampa Bay has been celebrating Gasparilla since 1904, but long before city streets and road signs, the waters off Florida's Gulf Coast were said to be haunted by a pirate king. José Gaspar was rumored to have terrorized these waters, leaving behind vanished ships and buried treasure. Some claim he was ruthless scourge of the sea; others argue he was never real at all, a legend carefully rafted in the early 1900s to put Tampa on the map.

Whether outlaw or marketing genius, pirate stories like Gaspar helped Florida earn its reputation as a wild, lawless frontier, where adventure -- and treasure -- were never far from shore.

Today, that legend lives on in the Gasparilla parade, where thousands gather to celebrate pirates, pageantry, and a little Florida mischief.

Deep in the swamps of old Florida, where the air hangs heavy and the palmettos whisper, folks have been telling the same story for generations. Long before modern roads and cities, the Native Seminole spoke of Esti Capcaki: a towering, ape-like figured said to roam the land, leaving behind deep footprints and a powerful, skunk-sharp scent. By the 1800s, settlers gave it a more familiar name: the Skunk Ape. Some argue it's nothing more than a bear. Others swear the swamps are hiding something older. In Florida, the line between history and legend has always been thin.

What do you think? Do you believe in the infamous Florida Skunk Ape?
