10/01/2015

Hurricane Joaquin has intensified into a major category 4 hurricane. It is currently still positioned over the Bahamas and will slowly begin making its turn Northward in the next 24 hours. The delay in turning has altered its forecasted track from yesterday. Model consensus is beginning to move slightly to the East. This storm is still extremely dangerous and poses a significant flooding threat to the Poconos, as well as the threat of high winds and power outages. Some areas across the region have already received 2 or more inches of rain over the past few days. More rainfall is on the way and with the ground already saturated and stream, creek and river levels already high we could be looking at a real mess early next week. There is still a possibility of the forecast track moving back to the west and the storm making a direct landfall in the Mid-Atlantic. www.poconowx.com will continue to keep you updated. Please share with your friends and family! Especially if they live along the East Coast!

The Poconos and the Northeastern United States are in the path of another potential major hurricane. The track of this storm is still uncertain but models have started to agree on where Joaquin seems to be going. As of right now, the storm is located Northeast of the Bahamas and moving slowly to the Southwest. Model consensus has begun to come together and form a track heading Northwestward and taking Joaquin up along the Eastern Seaboard eventually ending up off the coast of New Jersey. There are several factors at play that would determine the final track of the storm including a cold front that has already battered our area with rainfall, remnants of another tropical system, a high pressure system over the North Atlantic and another strong area of low pressure moving into the Southeastern U.S. later this week. The track of this storm bears a striking resemblance to the track of Hurricane Irene and Sandy. The Poconos will be feel the effects of this storm by the beginning of next week. The biggest effect we will feel is more heavy rainfall on top of what has already fallen. Flooding could become a major issue. We could also see some strong winds which could cause power outages across the area. Poconowx.com will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated on the developing situation.
