Ok, roadtrip statistics are ready. Hopefully I didn’t miss anything, but if there’s something you want included or have questions about, don’t hesitate to reach out!!
Roadtrip 2025 Statistics
Mileage before we left at 1pm on Monday, Sept 29th - 45,919
Mileage when we returned at 4:30pm on Friday, Oct 11th- 47,720
Total Miles traveled - 1,801.
Eddie drove the entire trip. My driving privileges are still revoked from last year when I didn’t pay attention to the road, tried to push all of the buttons in my car, and tried to record myself doing roadtrip karaoke - all while trying to drive. I’m a much better passenger…well, maybe not according to Eddie, but he does agree that I shouldn’t be doing the driving since I pay more attention to things on the side of the road vs. watching the actual road.
States traveled through -
Connecticut
New York
New Jersey
Pennsylvania
Ohio
Kentucky
Average miles of gas per gallon- 12.6mpg
This was a combined total from highway travel and city travel.
Rough estimate on cost of gas total- $586
Gallons of gas used - 142.9
Rough estimate on cost per gallon (using super) - $4.10
Total cost of hotel stays for a total of 12 nights (2 out of 12 nights were free/paid for with reward points for being Hilton Diamond Reward Members) *includes FREE hot breakfast every morning - $1,556.82
Rough estimate search for standard, round trip airfare (no layovers), for two people flying out of (LGA) LaGuardia, landing in (CVG) Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport + car rental, leaving on a Monday morning & returning 12 days later on a Friday. This estimate does NOT include cost of ride to & from LGA, gas fill-ups, hotel stays, or baggage fees for everything Annie packed. *this would also not include visits to multiple places in other states, as we’d be limited to the general vicinity of Cincinnati, OH (but able to drive to Cleveland, OH) **this also does not include bail for Annie after creating a disturbance on the plane with her anxiety - $3,256.82
# of times ears popped- quite a few. I’m starting to think this is an “us” problem. Our ears seem to pop multiple times on ALL of our trips. Does this happen to everyone?
Highest speed limit- 70mph
Lowest speed limit- 10mph
Highest Temperature- 92°
Lowest Temperature- 39°
Types of animals seen in the wild-
-An endless amount of Cows & Horses (mostly all on farmland in PA) *I made sure to yell out at the top of my lungs “horses” or “cows” every time we passed them to make sure Eddie didn’t miss a single one
-Raccoons & opossums (mostly in the form of road kill)
-Panda - seen at the World’s Largest Basket in Newark, OH. *Very important to note that this Panda was extremely friendly & took a pic with us in front of the basket. He also made sure to tell us that he is famous on Tik Tok under the name: Fishless Tuna
Times Eddie threatened to leave me -
1. The two times he took his eyes off me at different gas stations in PA & he found me gambling (even though I won a combined total of $395, which could also be the reason he didn’t leave me)
2. Everytime I started singing in the car.
3. When it was Eddie’s turn to buy dinner, & I used YELP to find the most expensive restaurant in Cleveland, and ordered an extremely rare A-5 (BMS score 9) olive fed Wagyu tenderloin ($49 per oz, minimum of 4 oz needed to be ordered, & all sides were a la carte)
4. Another time it was Eddie’s turn to buy dinner, I used YELP again to find one of the most expensive restaurant in Cincy, and ordered another $178 A-5 Wagyu filet
5. When I talked for three straight hours describing, in meticulous detail all reasons why we had to dedicate an entire day of our vacation to go to a grocery store in Cincy (Jungle Jim’s)
6. When we actually went to Jingle Jim’s, where I got overwhelmed trying to follow the map, had a full blown panic attack & had to step outside for a few mins to calm down. When I returned inside, I found the bar, got a margarita, then attempted to go down EVERY single aisle in the store (which took close to five hours). The icing on the cake was when I finally made it to the cash register to find I racked up a $450 tab for my purchases of the most random things you could think of, ranging from snacks from Japan that didn’t have labels in English (so we have no clue what it is) to a lava lamp (because I HAD to get it)
7. When I ran up to the Panda at the “World’s Largest Basket” & asked him to take a picture with us.
8. When we found a shop in Ohio called “Annie’s Automotive” & Eddie tried to hand me my Mac tool bag & told me to “have a great day at work”
# of songs I sang karaoke style in the car - at least 9, if not more - I only recorded & posted 2 when we were on our way home
# of Rocks Eddie Collected - ZERO - this is a first! I guess he didn’t see any rocks he really wanted. But, I did find a large piece of bark in one of my bags & asked him about it. His response “oh, it was a cool looking tree in Cincy & some of the bark was peeling, so I took a piece”.
Largest (or formerly the smallest) in the US / world places/rare things/places -
1. The Largest Private Collection of Atomic Glass- Hawley, PA
2. The World’s Largest Rubber Stamp - Cleveland, OH
3. The Former Smallest Book in the World - it was NOT easy to try find something that is the “smallest” (or formerly the smallest), so technically, we never actually got to see this. I chalked this up to the fact that this book must be SO small that it cannot be seen by the naked eye, hence why we couldn’t actually find it, despite our extensive attempts.
4. Cleveland’s Oldest Electric Street Lamp - Cleveland, OH *we are not positive we actually saw this as there was no sign indicating that whatever I took a pic of was in fact, Cleveland’s Oldest Electric Street Lamp, but it was a street lamp & it looked old.
5. The House From A Christmas Story (complete with the leg lamp in the front window)- Cleveland, OH
6. The Marble Room Steak and Raw Bar which is an award-winning steakhouse and raw bar located in an over 100 year old luxurious bank that offered an extremely rare A-5 (BMS score 9) olive-fed wagyu tenderloin. Apparently, there are only 1,700 sanuki olive-fed cattle per year, raised on Shodoshima Island in Kagawa Prefecture.
7. The World's Largest Outdoor Crystal Chandelier - This is a 20-foot tall stainless steel light made with 4,200 crystal pendants and LEDs that hangs 44 feet above the street from a special steel frame designed by a roller-coaster company - Cleveland, OH
8. World’s Largest Basket - Newark, OH
9. A Talking Panda at the “World’s Largest Basket” (Bumping into a talking Panda was definitely NOT on my roadtrip BINGO card)
10. The Largest Antique Automobile Show & Flea Markets in the United States - Hershey, PA
# of times Yelp took us to an abandoned lot instead of a 4-5 start restaurant - 1 (this may be a record too as we tend to find up in an abandoned lot at least 3 times on our roadtrips.
# of thunderstorms during our trip - ZERO *that’s definitely a record because I’m usually a thunderstorm magnet. We actually only had two rainy day the whole trip; the day we left & the day we drove from Cincy, OH to Hershey, PA.
# of weeks we could remain on vacation due to the amount of stuff Annie packed - about 2-3 more weeks, before we would need to start doing laundry or need medication refills.
# of times Annie fell in a shower - ZERO *this is also a record because I usually fall at least once on every vacation. I must have done a great job selecting hotels with non-slippery showers.
# of victims- I’d say roughly 1,500+ various bugs made the decision to commit su***de on my windshield or the grill of my car. I will pray for their families. *Just about all the bugs were from PA. The bugs in PA were definitely buggin. Eddie took my car through the car wash when we got home to get rid of all the evidence.
Traffic - I’d say we dealt with more traffic than usual on this trip. We hit our typical NY & CT traffic. We dealt with traffic in PA where I was convinced that ALL the right lanes were closed in the entire state. We were forced to drive in the left lane either due to accidents or for absolutely NO reason at all. There was also a decent amount of traffic in Cincy depending on the time of the day.
# of times Eddie was pulled over and/or created a disturbance- ZERO *I was proud of him for this given the amount of traffic we dealt with.
# of rolls of toilet paper we came home with - 4 (Eddie thinks it’s funny to ask every hotel for extra toilet paper & then we drag around the rolls & bring them home) *he does this with tissues too, & we came home with 3 boxes
# of Hershey Kiss shaped street lights in Hershey, PA - 106
# of Hershey Chocolate bars/free samples we received and/ate - too many to count. (Everywhere in Hershey gave out free chocolate, even our hotel).
# of waffles Eddie ate while we were away - 11. He ate a waffle every single morning except for one morning as I accidentally booked us a hotel with a pancake machine instead of a waffle maker. Eddie was NOT happy that morning.
Priceless - all the memories we made & ridiculous things we did! Extra priceless bonus points to all of you for following us on this trip.
I love posting about our travels, because so many of you follow this page & comment along the way. It’s like I’m having an awesome vacation with Eddie, but all our closest friends & family are with us too!!
Thank you all again for following “The Road Rules”. I hope you all enjoyed our trip as much as we did!
Already taking recommendations & requests for vacation locations for next year!! Has to be a road trip . Eddie doesn’t do cruises & I don’t fly! *will also accept requests for roadtrip karaoke songs to sing. lol
