Today’s consumers – especially Millennials and Gen Z – are drinking differently. Wellness, balance, and moderation are no longer niche ideals. These values have become part of the cultural vocabulary, and the wine industry is adapting accordingly.

“The Ventessa line was inspired by the growing consumer demand for better-for-you wine options,” says Barbara Darra, global marketing manager of Gruppo Mezzacorona. “Recognizing a shift towards more mindful drinking, Mezzacorona aimed to craft a product that aligned with these trends while maintaining the brand’s commitment to quality, authenticity and sustainability.”

Brazilian photographer Marcos Alberti’s “The Wine Project” offers a fun visual journey into the effects of wine. He photographed people arriving at his studio and then after each of three glasses. The series strikingly documents how faces soften, smiles bloom, and personalities emerge as the wine is enjoyed. A lighthearted exploration of wine’s social and emotional impact.

Dandelions in the vineyard 🌼🍷

⁉️Did You Know⁉️ Dandelions are considered “indicator species” in many agricultural contexts, including vineyards and a sign that bud break is soon to come‼️🌼🌱

“Indicator species” are organisms that serve as bioindicators of specific environmental conditions. Their presence, absence, or abundance gives clues to us about things like soil health, moisture, nutrient levels, or even pollution. In winegrowing (viticulture), indicator species help growers understand what’s happening in their vineyard ecosystem without having to run lab tests constantly.

So, what do dandelions tell us?

🌼 Soil: Dandelions have deep taproots, which allow them to thrive in compacted soils. Their roots help break up the soil and can even improve aeration over time.

🌼 Minerals: They sometimes indicate imbalances in the soil mineral profile, especially lower calcium and higher potassium levels.

🌼 pH: They often appear in more alkaline soils (higher pH).

🐝 In sustainable or organic winegrowing, dandelions are often welcomed as part of a diverse cover crop mix. They’re also great for pollinators early in the season.
