📣 5 Myths You’ve Heard About Christmas — Debunked

Every December, the claim resurfaces that Christmas is “pagan.” But that idea doesn’t come from early Christian history — it comes from modern assumptions.

Myth 1: Christmas came from Saturnalia
Saturnalia ran Dec 17–23, not Dec 25, and centered on chaos, gambling, and excess — the opposite of early Christian worship. Christians didn’t absorb pagan festivals; they often suffered for rejecting them.

Myth 2: December 25 copied a sun god
Christians were already discussing Dec 25 as Jesus’ birth date by the early 3rd century, before sun-cult holidays were widespread. They didn’t imitate pagan gods — they proclaimed Christ as “the Light of the World.”

Myth 3: Christmas trees are pagan
There’s no evidence pagans used decorated evergreens like today’s trees. Christmas trees appear in Christian Europe in the 1500s, symbolizing eternal life, the Tree of Life, and Christ restoring what Adam lost.

Myth 4: Early Christians didn’t celebrate Christmas
