Heavy rain is ongoing across parts of East Texas this morning, with storms slowly dropping southeast. Some areas are seeing 2–3 inches per hour, and a few spots have already picked up 4–5 inches.

This setup will keep the flash flood risk going through the late morning, especially where storms keep training over the same areas.

Additional 2–4 inches is possible, mainly across East Texas into southwest Louisiana.

Trinity County hasn’t been hit the hardest yet, but flash flood warnings are already in effect just to the north. If this activity keeps sliding southeast, conditions can go downhill quickly.

Stay weather aware if you’re out this morning.

SPC Mesoscale Discussion Update (10 AM)

Storms are already getting going across parts of Texas this morning, including a cluster west of Lampasas moving into a very unstable, moisture-loaded environment.

What to watch:

• A few storms could turn strong to severe late morning into early afternoon
• Wind is the main issue — gusts 55–70 mph possible
• Isolated hail up to around 1.25”

Rain & flooding:

• Plenty of moisture in place (around 2” PWATs)
• Storms will dump rain fast
• 1–3” in a short time is possible, with higher amounts in spots
• Localized flash flooding could develop where storms slow down or track over the same areas

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch isn’t expected right now (about a 20% chance), mainly because winds higher up in the atmosphere aren’t strong enough to organize storms more.

Still, any storm that gets going could briefly ramp up and produce a quick burst of damaging wind along with heavy rain.

I’ll keep an eye on how things evolve into the afternoon.

Historic things you don't ever want to see.

06/18/2026

Around 30 inches of rain has already fallen across Plaucheville, LA from the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur. Rain rates have been historic and are likely nearing or even shattering state records in spots. The heaviest rain has largely tapered off at this point, with only limited additional rainfall expected going forward.

🌀 TROPICAL STORM ARTHUR UPDATE – WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

Tropical Storm Arthur is just off the Texas coast with sustained winds around 40 mph. The storm is expected to track northeast along the Upper Texas Coast toward Louisiana through tonight before moving inland.

🌧️ The biggest threat continues to be flooding rainfall, not wind. Several inches of rain have already fallen across parts of Southeast Texas, with additional heavy bands expected through tonight. Some locations along the Upper Texas Coast and into Louisiana could see much higher totals, leading to flash flooding concerns.

💨 Tropical storm-force wind gusts are occurring along portions of the coast, but Arthur is expected to remain a relatively weak tropical storm before moving inland and weakening.

📍 For Central Texas, including Bell County, Arthur's direct impacts remain limited. A few outer rain bands and gusty winds are possible, but the greatest flooding threat stays well east toward the Texas coast and Southeast Texas.

⚠️ If you're in Southeast Texas, continue to monitor flood warnings and never drive through flooded roadways. The flooding threat will likely outlast the tropical storm itself.
