Tonight’s dinner was straight from my roots. 🇲🇽
Sopes — a traditional antojito from central Mexico, especially in Hidalgo where my family is from. Thick hand-pressed masa with the edges pinched just right, topped with salsa verde, pollo, queso fresco, cilantro and onion.
The salsa was made fresh tonight, and there’s just something about warm masa in your hands that feels like home. 🌽
Quick tip for perfect masa:
Use warm water, a pinch of salt, and aim for a soft Play-Doh texture. If it cracks, add a little water. If it sticks, a sprinkle of masa harina.
Simple. Humble. Rooted.
Food like this isn’t just dinner — it’s identity.
