To all our former, current, and future service members — thank you for your sacrifice, dedication, and unwavering commitment to our nation.

Since my retirement, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with more veterans and explore a variety of benefits, programs, and resources available to us. It’s been an eye-opening experience, and it inspired me to make this page a space where we can learn, share, and support each other — whether it’s about VA benefits, disability and health claims, or everyday tips that make life after service a little easier.

Governor Lamont has officially signed the CT HERO Act (2025) — a major win expanding benefits, recognition, and support for veterans, service members, and their families across the state.

Here’s what’s included 👇

💥 What the CT HERO Act Does:
✅ November = Veterans’ Month — a full month dedicated to honoring your service.
✅ New Recognition Plates — Commemorative plates for Women Veterans and the Borinqueneers.
✅ No More DMV Fees — Free driver’s license renewal for vets attending a “Stand Down” event & waived fees for Purple Heart plates.
✅ Fallen HERO Fund — Expands support to all first responders and their families, with improved health coverage for survivors.
✅ Faster Access to Care — Accelerated nursing home placement for service-connected vets + stronger dental services from the CT Department of Veterans Affairs.
✅ Support for Military Kids — Smoother school transitions for families receiving special education services.
✅ Business Boost — Disabled veteran-owned businesses now get priority for state grants.
✅ New State Military Honors — The Adjutant General can now create new state awards and ribbons.

🎖️ Calling all military families & supporters!

We’re excited to share the opportunity for the Operation Homefront 2026 Military Child of the Year® Awards — a national recognition for young stars in military life. 

🌟 Who it’s for:
• Teens ages 13-18 who are legal dependents of a service member or military retiree. 
• Outstanding in volunteering, academics, leadership, and navigating the unique challenges of military-connected life. 

📅 Important Dates & Details:
• Nominations are now open and will close December 2, 2025 at 11:59 PM CST. 
• The awards gala will take place in Washington, D.C. in April 2026—winners will be flown in, receive a laptop and $10,000 each. 

🌍 Why it matters:
Military kids often serve behind the scenes—moving frequently, adapting to new environments, supporting a parent in uniform. This award shines a spotlight on their resilience and leadership.
