FIFA World Cup Fans

You came to America for the beautiful game.

You discovered Texas barbecue, ranch dressing, and Buc-ee’s.

But have you tried craft bourbon yet?

Cheers Y’all!

Sometimes you pour a whiskey, enjoy it, and move on. Other times you pour one and immediately know it’s earned a spot on the shelf.

That was the case with these two.

The Wheel Horse Rum Barrel Finished Double Mash Whiskey is an easy summer sipper. The rum barrel influence adds just the right touch of sweetness with notes of brown sugar, vanilla, and tropical fruit without overpowering the whiskey. This is the kind of bottle that disappears faster than you expect on a warm Texas evening.

The Copper & Cask Double Oak Bourbon is a full blown cherry bomb. Rich dark cherries, caramel, oak, and baking spice come together in a way that keeps pulling you back for another sip. If you’re a fan of bold double oak bourbons, this one deserves your attention.

A big thank you to Wheel Horse and Copper & Cask for sending these bottles my way to share with friends and spend some time with. I plan to enjoy both of them throughout the summer.

The good news is both of these may still be available to order, so check out their websites before they’re gone. Cheers Y’all!

There are a lot of great organizations out there supporting our veterans, active military, law enforcement, and first responders. Recently, I learned about one that is making a real impact right here in Texas: Frontline Heroes Outdoors.

I want to give a special thank you to Preston Wall for taking the time to talk with me about the mission behind FHO. What stood out to me wasn’t just the outdoor adventures they provide. It was the community they are building. Their goal is to create opportunities for connection, camaraderie, healing, and support for veterans, active duty military, law enforcement, first responders, and their families. Through hunting, fishing, hiking, kayaking, concerts, and other events, they help these heroes step away from the stress of daily life and reconnect with people who understand their journey.

What makes it even more impressive is that Frontline Heroes Outdoors is a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit, with every dollar going back toward supporting their mission and the heroes they serve.

There are many ways to support an organization like this. You can donate, volunteer, attend events, help spread the word, or purchase one of their incredible barrel picks. This Still Austin Single Barrel Rye, “FHO’s Rye or Die,” is a perfect example. It is a top notch Texas rye that delivers bold spice, rich flavor, and everything I enjoy about Still Austin’s rye program. The good news is there are still a few bottles available, so if you’re in the San Antonio area, stop by The Gents Place and grab one while you can. Not only are you getting an outstanding bottle, but every purchase helps support an organization that is giving back to the people who have sacrificed so much for all of us.

Good whiskey is always enjoyable. Good whiskey that supports a great cause is even better.

Be sure to check out Frontline Heroes Outdoors and learn more about the work they are doing. If you’re looking for a way to support veterans, military members, first responders, and their families, this Texas organization is making a difference one experience at a time.

I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it.

I wish more whiskey brands would offer 100ml bottles like this one.

With the price of bourbon continuing to climb, dropping $70, $100, or even $200+ on a bottle you’ve never tasted can feel like a gamble. A 100ml pour gives people a chance to try without taking a major hit to the wallet.

The best part? If the whiskey is good, that little bottle usually turns into a full size purchase. If it’s not your thing, you’re only out a few pours instead of a chunk of your bourbon budget.

Am I alone on this one, or would you like to see more brands offer 100ml tasters?

Cheers Y’all!

Happy National Bourbon Day!

One of the biggest misconceptions in whiskey is that bourbon has to come from Kentucky. Kentucky may be the heart of bourbon country, but bourbon can be made anywhere in the United States. The law simply requires it to be made in America, from at least 51% corn, aged in new charred oak barrels, and meet a few other production standards.

This lineup is proof. In this photo alone we’ve got bourbon from Oklahoma, Kentucky, Texas, Tennessee, and Iowa. Five different states, five different approaches, and five very different flavor profiles. And the truth is there are great bourbon distilleries producing outstanding whiskey in all 50 states.

That is one of the things I love most about bourbon. It reflects the people, grains, climate, and traditions of where it is made. A Texas bourbon doesn’t taste like a Kentucky bourbon. An Iowa bourbon doesn’t taste like a Tennessee bourbon. And that’s exactly what makes exploring this hobby so much fun.

So on National Bourbon Day, whether your favorite bottle comes from Kentucky or your own backyard, raise a glass to America’s native spirit and all the distillers keeping the tradition alive across the country.

What state makes your favorite bourbon?

USA! USA! USA!

A plate of wings, a cold beer, and Team USA getting the job done. That’s about as close to a perfect night as you can draw up.

The United States picked up its first win of the World Cup tonight, and it was a fun one to watch from start to finish. Great atmosphere, great game, and plenty of reasons to believe this tournament could be something special.

If the rest of the matches are half as entertaining as this one, we’re all in for a good few weeks.

Who’s watching the World Cup and how far do you think Team USA can go?

Cheers Y’all!

Take Home Thursday means it’s time for another Shelfie.

This week it’s all about rye whiskey. Some big names. Some hidden gems. Some bottles that don’t stay on shelves very long.

Look it over once. Then look it over again. Somewhere on this shelf is the one bottle you’re taking home.

You can only pick one.

What are you grabbing and why?

Cheers Y’all!

Smells good and tastes great.Cheers Y’all!
