Myers Alum Dustin Grella of Dusty Studio has a phone booth at the 40th anniversary show at SPACES where visitors can leave a voicemail for the "Animation Hotline" that he will then use to create stop-motion animations, much like this one from a past message:

Found this oldie but a goodie in the archive, and felt the need to share! I love twist endings, that get ya right in the heart strings. Call and leave us a message about a good person in your life, who’s moral value impacts you! (212) 683-2490

Animation Hotline: NYC Problems (#200)

Another hotline from our archive that seemed just as relevant now as it was then (2 years ago) Here's the summary from 2 years ago...
"This summer I was in Germany and Switzerland and it seemed like most of the conversations that I was having at some point shifted topic to the situation with the Syrian refugees. It seemed at the very least to be on the back burner of most people's minds. But then I got home, New York, and although there was a little nonsensical talk about building a wall, not a lot of people even knew what was happening. I don't really feel like there is a lot I can do about the refugee crisis, most of my time is spent trying to survive or climb or achieve, much like the narrator. However, sometimes we can get shown the light in the strangest of places if we look at it right."

Animation Hotline: Alien (#210)

Thank you to the The Goddard School
for giving us some great kid monologues to animate! It was so much fun hearing their minds explore and be creative, which is what we did with this animation. Kids are the bestest! Keep calling, even if you're an adult. (212) 683-2490!!!

Animation Hotline: Foot Job (#209)

A woman shares one of her secrets at our new phonebooth in the fabulous SPACES in Cleveland, Ohio. This one was a quick straight ahead, stream of consciousness under the camera. Please enjoy, like and share, and keep calling, (212) 683-2490! We'll be working hard to crank out more animations. Thank you to Spaces for letting us send the phonebooth and giving us plenty of material to work with (:

Animation Hotline: Phonebooth (#205)

Whoa! Haven't made one of these in a really long time. Maybe since last summer?! But here it is. There are three new interns this summer and we will be cranking these things out for the next month or so (maybe longer if we get a bunch of really great calls- hint-hint). So, what we are trying to say is call, call and then call again so that we can choose from a whole bunch of stories, summer stories, poems, nightmares, reality checks, drunkalogues, breakups, engagements, childs new to the world, all that stuff. All that good life stuff. Call! Call 212-683-2490. This particular animation is about a phonebooth, sort of, not really. We also made a life sized phonebooth that people can go inside and leave messages, so if you want to host the phonebooth at your location contact us. It's pretty heavy. Maybe 500 pounds. But one of the interns are really strong so it shouldn't be a problem. Have a great summer! Enjoy!

Animation Hotline

Hey everybody! It's summer time again and we have a little extra time and energy to start making new Animation Hotline videos. My brother Drew, Drew Grella, came out and stayed with me for a month, he's an illustrator so he drew most of this one. I think I know who left this message also (Brenda), I think I can recognize her voice, but maybe I'll let her chime in and let me know if it's her.

Because we are starting new animations we will also need new voicemail messages. So please call in and leave a little story, a poem, thought, memory, or any kind of message that is shorter than a minute and we will choose one a day to try to animate. Thanks for participating! :)

This is my friend Lotte. She left a few messages, I think most of them were from Skype because they were horribly garbled, but this one came out clear. She just moved to SF, and seems to be excited about the possibilities.

Animation Hotline: Humor

Micro animation of Robert Pope's thoughts on humor. He was one of my favorite professors. The class that he taught was Creative Writing, but more importantly he taught how to love life.

Animation Hotline: The End

This was one of the first messages I got, and I was so excited about it that I tried to do it first, but after working on it for a few hours I had to set it aside and work on something else. I just wasn't able to animate it. For whatever reason, today I felt like I was going to be able to do it, so I picked it back up and drew it.

Animation Hotline is a series of daily animations where I use messages left on my voicemail for content. when you get a chance please leave me a message, and honestly it’s best if you leave more than one because sometimes what you think is the perfect message might simply be impossible for me to animate in one day. I post a new animation and a more detailed description of each, here on my blog every day at 11:11am. To watch entire archive of Animation Hotline animations go to my website.
