The Meridian at Lehman College The Student Voice of Lehman College We believe that the role of the Meridian is to give the Lehman College community a voice. The Meridian strives to be a student-focused news source, but also intends to chronicle all aspects of campus life and inform its readership.

BREAKING: Two buildings in 116 Street, in East Harlem, number 1644 and 1646 Park Avenue, have collapsed after an explosion that rattled the surrounding buildings.

A number of people have been injured and they fear there are more trapped in the rubble.

Damages were left around the area, mostly windows. Students nearby were sent home

Update: Two dead, 18 injured, NBC reports.

Update: ConEd received a gas complaint at 9:13 a.m. and they dispatched a crew which arrived right after the explosion, NBC reports.

Metro North service was suspended and 116th has been closed down.

TODAY 3/6/2014: A man visiting Lehman collapsed on one of the benches in front of the Student Life Building (SLB), and had seizures, having to require medical attention.

The man was accompanied by a friend and a Lehman student, Kissmel Tamarez, when he lost consciousness. Tamarez called 911 and another person alerted the staff of the SLB who contacted Public Safety.

The paramedics took him to an ambulance where they stabilized him and took him to Montefiore Medical Center.

We will keep you updated as we find more information.
