Founded in 1928, the year that Fieldston’s Riverdale campus opened, The Fieldston News is the upper school’s official newspaper. The publication is entirely student-run (with graphics and printing assistance from the Graphic Communications Department), and appears bi-weekly. The News covers a wide range of school-related matters, from reports on the latest assemblies, to updates from the athletic
fields and art studios. In addition, the paper offers a lively running commentary on the world outside of the school, with political opinion pieces, music reviews, stories on various New York City neighborhoods, and more. You can now enjoy the excellent student writing, editorial, and design work showcased in The Fieldston News online; see below for a link to the latest issue, and check back again soon to stay up to date on the life of the school. In addition, you can read a high-spirited non-linear history of The Fieldston News that appeared in the spring 2009 issue of the ECF Reporter, featuring an abundance of news stories and images from the ECF archives, as well as alumni memories from across the decades.
“THE NEWS is imbued with the desire to represent the school’s best in personality, vitality, and progressiveness.” (From the opening editorial of the first issue of The Fieldston News, November 14, 1928)
