Just a reminder for anyone with a saltwater pool: be diligent about checking and cleaning your salt chlorine generator cell.

This amount of calcification buildup occurred during the normal three-month cycle between recommended cell inspections. The buildup significantly affected the cell’s ability to accurately read and maintain the proper salt level. In my case, the salt reading was off by approximately 400 ppm.

When the system thinks your salt level is below the minimum threshold, it may reduce the amount of chlorine it produces, often resulting in cloudy or green water.

The takeaway: Don’t assume everything is fine just because the system is running. Check your salt cell regularly for calcium buildup and clean it when necessary. A few minutes of maintenance can prevent bigger water-quality problems down the road.

**🏠 A Heads-Up for Homeowners with Vinyl Siding**

9/3/2026: Just a quick reminder for homeowners with vinyl siding in The Villages:

RoMac is phasing out Mastic 4½" Dutch Lap siding, which has been used on homes throughout The Villages for many years. The replacement siding, manufactured by CertainTeed, will be 5" Dutch Lap, so it will not be a direct match for homes with the older 4½" siding.

This morning, I was advised that RoMac plans to keep some of the more common colors of the older Mastic 4½" siding in stock, but only in limited quantities.

If you need a color or quantity they don't currently have in inventory, it will need to be special ordered with a minimum purchase of one full case. Special-order siding is also non-returnable.

If you're concerned that you may need a replacement piece or two down the road, you might want to consider picking up a couple of matching pieces while they're still readily available. As many homeowners know, lawn mowers and string trimmers can be the natural enemies of vinyl siding!

I've attached a photo showing how to measure your siding so you can determine whether you have the older 4½" Dutch Lap.

If your home has a Louisville, Featherlite, Lite, or Century attic ladder, it's worth checking to see if it's included in the recent recall affecting approximately 1.7 million units.

Instructions on how to determine if your attic ladder is affected can be found on the following link.

In our area of Florida, Home Depot carries the Louisville brand. Lowe's typically carries Werner.

Consumers should stop using the recalled ladders immediately and register at Atticstairwayrecall.expertinquiry.com to receive a free repair kit. I want to share a great experience with A + Screens LLC. I've used this company several times over the years and have recommended them to many of my own customers. Most recently, I had them replace the Phifer Glas-Shield ("Florida Glass") on my lanai/birdcage, and they did an outstanding job.

They showed up when they said they would, the installation was flawless, and everything looks great. The quality of the work was top-notch, and they left everything clean when they were done.

It's hard to find companies that are reliable and take pride in their work, but these guys definitely do. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing screen repair or replacement.

I've seen two instances in the past week where the front cover on a Linear garage door opener has cracked.

The recommended repair is to order a replacement cover and perform a straightforward installation once the part arrives.

If you experience a similar problem and need assistance, please let me know.

It's definitely a DIY project if you're comfortable working on a ladder.
