Not a self-help book.

Not a journal.

A novel.

A story about a 72-year-old woman who moves to
The Villages, Florida — America's most infamous retirement community — and decides that if
she's going to cause a little scandal, she's earned the right.

It's called Red Lipstick, Scandal in The Villages, and it comes out in just a few days.
Here's what I'll say: I didn't write this book because it was safe. I wrote it because some stories
demand to be told — about women who spent decades shrinking themselves to keep the peace,
and what happens when they finally, finally stop.
The dedication says it all: "For the women who were told it was too late. For the ones who rebuilt
anyway. "

I want to share a few lines from the book today. Just to give you a feel for Lorraine —72 years old, freshly arrived in The Villages, and absolutely done with being invisible.
"She had lived in beige for thirty-one years. "
"Now I wear red lipstick again."
That's it. That's the whole arc right there, if you squint.

Lorraine didn't have a dramatic breakdown. She didn't rage. She just... decided. She decided that
72 wasn't the end of anything — it was the beginning of doing whatever the hell she wanted.
And then she met Jack Delaney, with his midnight-blue golf cart and his easy smile, and things
got considerably more complicated.
This book is only 106 pages. It reads fast. It hits hard.

Out Now!

Have you ever heard of The Villages, Florida?
If you have, you're already smiling. If you haven't — buckle up.

The Villages is the largest retirement community in America. Over 130,000 residents. More than
100,000 golf carts. Three town squares with live entertainment every single night. And a
reputation — let's say colorful — that has made it the subject of documentaries, news articles,
and more than a few raised eyebrows.

The median age is 73.
And the energy? It puts most cities half its age to shame.

This is where my new novel is set. Because when I was looking for a place that captures what
happens when people finally stop following the rules they were handed in their twenties... The
Villages wrote itself.
My protagonist Lorraine Bishop moves there at 72, fresh from a 41-year marriage, carrying
nothing but a suitcase and a brand new tube of red lipstick.
What happens next? Well. The whole town finds out. It always does.

The sun sets slower in The Villages, but the rumors travel faster than a customized golf cart.

At seventy-two, Lorraine Bishop didn't move to Florida to find love; she moved to start over. But when she meets Jack Delaney—a tanned, silver-haired former airline pilot with a "dangerous" past—retirement suddenly looks a lot less quiet.

One midnight golf cart ride and a bold application of red lipstick later, Lorraine is the talk of the town square. But in a place where everyone is watching, secrets don’t stay buried for long.

Lorraine must decide if she’s playing for love, leverage, or the simple power of choosing herself.
Because in The Villages, desire doesn’t expire—it just gets more expensive.
