The Frederick County Department of Highway Operations will close Foxville Deerfield Road between addresses 16340 and 16429 daily beginning on or about July 21, 2025 for approximately three weeks, weather permitting. This closure will be a day closure between 6:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. A signed detour will be in place.

The closure will allow the Department of Highway Operations to stabilize the stream bank along the road.

The Montgomery County Department of Police confirms that Sergeant Mark Burhoe, a 20-year veteran of the department, was arrested on Thursday, July 10, 2025, by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and has been charged with multiple counts of possession of child po*******hy.

⚠️ RECREATING IN THE POTOMAC RIVER MAY BE RISKY DUE TO HIGH BACTERIA LEVELS ⚠️

Washington County Emergency Management has been in contact with state and local officials regarding recent concerns about elevated bacteria levels in the Potomac River. While no new sewage leaks have been reported in our area, the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and other partners have confirmed that wet weather conditions this summer have likely contributed to higher bacteria levels due to increased runoff.

Following a significant sewage leak in Allegany County in May, repairs were completed via a bypass system, and advisories remain active upstream. MDE reminds residents that water contact recreation in natural waters always carries some risk of illness, especially during and after heavy rainfall.

Residents are urged to take extra precautions when swimming, kayaking, tubing, or otherwise coming in contact with natural bodies of water. MDE recommends following these healthy habits for swimming in natural waters by visiting https://mde.maryland.gov/programs/water/MHB/Pages/beaches_tips.aspx
