A 19-year-old Kentucky babysitter is facing multiple charges after 11-month-old Grayson Walton was found hidden inside a couch.

Police say Elijah Mayes was caring for Grayson when the child disappeared. Mayes allegedly claimed someone else had picked him up, but investigators later found the story did not match the evidence.

A search of another home reportedly led authorities to the child, who had visible injuries. Investigators also allege Mayes created a fake phone number and used it to send messages to himself in an apparent attempt to support an alibi.

Mayes faces several charges and has pleaded not guilty. Another man was also arrested in connection with an alleged attempt to tamper with evidence.

The case happened just two weeks before Grayson’s first birthday.
