Yesterday I adopted the oldest, sickest, and sorest shelter GSD. I'll never forget his eyes. When I went into the cage, he didn't even bother to look; he knew I wouldn't even see him.
Curling around the corner, He'd accepted his fate. The volunteer said to me many times... Are you sure this is the one? Are you sure? YES! This is my dog. He opened the cage, and 3 animals fell on me. I ran towards him, suddenly he looked at me as if he saw an angel... I hugged him and told him that now he'll be happy again. Then he sleeps in my lap... probably the first peaceful sleep he ever had.
Please give it a life. Give it a hug. They need us.
From a dad who saved a soul.

I lost my boy last night.

Last night at around 8 pm, I noticed my boy (9) acting odd. He was distant, was laying in odd spots around the house, and he kept whining when I’d lay with him. I figured he was nervous about the fireworks that had just started (my neighbors celebrate Diwali and were setting loud ones off in the driveway which is right next to my house). After a bit I figured this was something more serious so I rushed him to the emergency vet near me. They did an x ray and determined he had bloat. They also discovered an additional mass in his stomach which we were not aware of. Less than a year ago he was also diagnosed with adrenal cancer but he was showing no symptoms of it, he was acting as healthy as ever until yesterday evening. I’ve always followed all the precautions with feeding/exercise to avoid bloat. I’ll never forgive myself for not having him have a gastroprexy.

The emergency vet said we should not go through with the surgery. She said with his masses she was sure he wouldn’t survive it, so I decided to put him down. I held and kissed his face as much as I could as it was happening. This was the first time I ever lost a pet. This dog was my baby. My first pet. I have his name tattooed on me. He was the ultimate mommas boy and the most gentle of giants. I feel so broken. I have another German shepherd who’s a few years younger her than him and she is acting so distraught. I brought her to the clinic after he passed so she could see his body and she laid down beside him and was licking his face. Now that we’re home she keeps looking around the house for him and whining every now and then. My heart is broken. Mommy will miss you forever, my Kobe. I’ll never ever recover from this pain.

The Brave Heart of K9 Rex — A Story of Courage, Sacrifice, and Hope 🐾🇺🇸
Not all heroes wear uniforms — some wear fur and carry hearts braver than most humans ever could. This is the story of K9 Rex, a true warrior whose courage on the battlefield saved lives, but cost him his own legs.
Rex served alongside his handler in multiple high-risk missions, always leading the way when danger was near. His sharp instincts and fearless spirit helped detect explosives, protect soldiers, and prevent countless tragedies. But one fateful day, during a rescue operation, an explosion changed his life forever.
Despite the chaos and injury, Rex didn’t back down. Even when wounded, he stayed alert — signaling his team about nearby threats and ensuring they reached safety. His body was broken, but his will remained unshaken. 💔🔥
After the operation, Rex underwent a long and difficult surgery where both of his back legs had to be amputated. Many thought his service days were over — but not Rex. With the help of a custom wheelchair, he learned to walk again, run again, and live again. Each step he takes now is a reminder that true strength is not measured by what we lose, but by how we rise after loss.
Today, Rex lives as a symbol of resilience and unconditional loyalty. His sacrifice reminds us of the silent heroes who give everything to protect others — not for glory, but out of love and duty. 🌹🐕
“He may have lost his legs, but he never lost his spirit.”

Maybe there is more of his dad in him that I didn’t see before🥹
