On July 25, 1864, Adaline Duren was ax murdered at the age of 42. Her neighbor, John Warren, a black man living in the attic of the nearby Garnett House Hotel, was accused, drug through the town and offered vigilante justice when hung from the rafters of the town’s jail.

Warren’s guilt has been questioned for years. He was a likely scapegoat during the first years of the nations Civil War. While his remains were discarded outside of town and scattered about by local wildlife, you can imagine my delight when I discovered Duren was buried in the local cemetery.

Our group ventured out last night in search of answers and feel we found them. As soon as we called on Duren, “killer” came through Spirit Talker. We reminded her that John Warren had been accused of her murder, and asked for the name of her murderer, and we received the name “George.” I asked Duren to validate her identity by identifying a detail about her death to which she responded “neck torture.” She was, in fact, nearly decapitated during her assault.

We continued to get clues as to the identity of her killer, and these were confirmed through multiple pieces of equipment. I am more intrigued than ever with this tragedy, and hope that research continues to yield answers.

We had the BEST time at the The 1858 Garnett House Hotel last night!! Here are some photos from the house and cemetery! 👻 Lots of activity with our equipment at the cemetery. It was super cool to see. Might have to start going more often. 🙃 I also got to meet Joslyn’s TT and I feel like I’ve crossed something off my bucket list!! 💗😘
