Over the years we've been fortunate to work with many talented and inspiring artists, including Hickory Creek Revival—a family band that’s been jamming out rootsy folk music for decades.

Stone Hut followed the band at Holy Wah! Studios in northern Michigan as they recorded songs for their upcoming album Before Too Long. The foursome sat down to document their origin story, their approach to songwriting, and how their family band evolved throughout the years. Through rich archival materials and a comprehensive survey of their musical stylings, this documentary offers a heart-warming look into the legacy of Hickory Creek Revival.

Hickory Creek Revival has been a family band for decades, led by Andy Willey and rounded out by Rick, Bob, and Rose Willey, this troupe of singer-songwriters creates a sound that is pure Americana. Rooted in folk with overtones of bluegrass and rock, the Willey family band stylings are steeped in th...

Over the spring and summer we had the chance to document the innovative Nursing department at Northwestern Michigan College. We captured student perspectives that give insight to the learning experience and show why the program is in such high demand.

From hands-on training in state-of-the-art simulation labs to expert faculty guidance and extensive clinical opportunities, NMC helps students develop the skills and confidence to succeed in healthcare settings.

We're fortunate to have such a dynamic and impactful program right here in our community, and glad we get a chance to shine a light on it.

Through a series of short videos supported by student testimonials and staff insights, Stone Hut Studios helped NMC show why their nursing program is in high demand. The videos illustrate how students gain hands-on experience in state-of-the-art simulation labs, benefit from the guidance of expert f...

This past summer we had the privilege of partnering with the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy to showcase their efforts to help save a treasured parcel of land from development. Through the Elberta Waterfront Community Conservation Project, GTRLC and the community of Elberta raised a whopping $19.5 million in just 6 months to purchase the land and ensure its preservation. Around 750 people chipped in, with gifts from 75 cents up to $9 million.

Through an innovative approach that balances natural resource conservation with community-guided redevelopment, this project sees that critical dune habitat is preserved while creating new opportunities for recreation and economic growth.

We’re excited to watch the next chapter unfold for the Village of Elberta!

The Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy has been preserving northern Michigan’s natural areas for over three decades. In response to growing development interest in the region, the Conservancy has played a vital role in protecting irreplaceable lands. Stone Hut had the opportunity to document...

ABOUT AARON DENNIS Stone Hut’s founder, Aaron Dennis, has worked around the globe on film and video projects for humanitarian and educational projects. Aaron started shooting video at age 9 with his grandparent's VHS camcorder. A graduate of the University of Michigan’s Cinema Arts program, Dennis began his professional career in Malawi, Africa filming and photographing the work of Malaria and AIDS researchers. Later in New York City, he worked on several national PBS documentaries including the award-winning four-part “Supreme Court” series. After this we was commissioned to spend seven months in Asia filming the Tibetan communities of India, Nepal and Tibet to create a video archive of a rapidly changing culture. The importance of family and the natural world led him to return in 2008 to his beautiful hometown of Traverse City, Michigan. Stone Hut Studios was founded in 2011 and a year later released the feature length documentary, The People and The Olive: The Story of the Run Across Palestine which was directed and edited by Dennis. In 2014 Aaron produced and edited Stone Hut Studios' second feature documentary, Connected by Coffee. In 2018 Stone Hut Studios partnered with Detroit Public Television to create Beneath The Surface, a Michigan Emmy-award winning public television documentary about the Line 5 oil pipeline controversy.
