Truth

Warm 30 degrees is when the sun is out, the snow is melting, and people are outside in hoodies acting like it's spring. Kids are riding bikes. Someone's grilling. You might even see a person in shorts. It feels almost pleasant. You can breathe without pain. This is the good 30 degrees.

Cold 30 degrees is when the wind is cutting through every layer you're wearing, the sky is gray, and it feels like 10 degrees even though the thermometer says 30. You're miserable. Your face hurts. You regret leaving the house. This is the bad 30 degrees.

The difference is humidity, wind, and sun. A sunny, calm 30-degree day feels warm compared to a windy, overcast 30-degree day. It's the same temperature on paper, but your body knows the truth. One is tolerable. The other is suffering.

People from warm states don't understand this. They think 30 degrees is just cold. But Michiganders know better. We've lived through both versions, and we can tell the difference the second we step outside. We know which 30 degrees we're dealing with before we even check the weather.

This photo perfectly captures warm 30 degrees. The snow is patchy and melting. The roads are wet but clear. People are probably outside without coats because "it's not that bad." This is the version of 30 degrees where Michigan feels livable.

If you know, you know. And if you don't, you wouldn't understand.

Meet Mouse! She's our featured pet of the week in Dave's Doghouse. Mouse is a 3 year old beauty queen. She loves to look out the window at the birds. She is also a great cuddle bug. She has a medical condition that makes her a little wobbly but that doesn't slow her down-it makes her unique! If you're interested in adopting this sweet and beautiful girl, please call the Cherryland Humane Society at 231 946-5116.
