Pope Francis invites all to join him in prayer and a special blessing tomorrow:

▪️Live stream at www.VaticanNews.va

The Vatican shared: “The Pope…announced that on…Friday, 27 March, he will preside over a moment of prayer on the sagrato of St Peter’s Basilica…. ‘I invite everyone to participate spiritually through the means of communication’, he said. The ceremony will consist in readings from the Scriptures, prayers of supplication, and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament; and will conclude with Pope Francis giving the Urbi et orbi Blessing, with the possibility of gaining a plenary indulgence for all those who listen to it live through the various forms of communication. The blessing ‘to the City [of Rome] and to the World’ is normally only given on Christmas and Easter. ...[The Director of the Holy See Press Office] noted that the plenary indulgence attached to the Urbi et orbi blessing is subject to the conditions foreseen by the recent Decree of the Apostolic Penitentiary.”

Dear brothers and sisters,

While we are experiencing a time of uncertainty and challenge, let us not be discouraged! May we continue to seek intimacy with the Lord during this season of Lent, as we fast, pray, and pour out love for others through acts of charity.

Although we cannot gather publicly to celebrate the Mass for the time being, we can continue to strengthen our relationships with Christ. Now, perhaps more than ever, is an opportunity to do so first within our own hearts and homes.

Please pray with me, as we specially entrust the Diocese of Gaylord to the maternal care of our Blessed Mother, under the title of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. May we continue to bring her our fears, worries, and uncertainties, asking that she bring them to her Son, Jesus.

An important message from the Diocese of Gaylord.

STATEMENT OF BISHOP STEVEN J RAICA
To the Priests, Deacons, Religious, and Faithful of the Diocese of Gaylord:

"As the concern over coronavirus (also known as COVID-19) continues to spread worldwide and now within the United States, it is necessary to be proactive in providing useful and practical measures of prevention within our parishes, schools and institutions within the Diocese of Gaylord. Yesterday afternoon, I sent the Priests and Pastoral Administrators the following letter outlining the measures that are now in effect. We are committed to monitoring the spread of coronavirus and, from time to time, may add, subtract or revise additional measures to protect the people who come to our parishes, schools and institutions by publishing timely updates on our website and social media platforms.

May we join together in prayer for those who are already adversely affected, invoking the divine protection and invoke the prayerful aid of Our Lady of Mt Carmel during this precarious moment in our history."

I applaud the Michigan Legislature which favored bills to ban dismemberment abortions (D&E), the most common late-term abortion procedure (over 1,700 in Michigan per year). As one who is and has been staunchly pro-life, I am appalled by the thought of such callous disregard for innocent life. The fact that our consciences have been sufficiently anesthetized to accept this as “normal” makes me shudder. If such a procedure were done to animals, there would surely be public outrage. For the sake of respecting human dignity and the rights of the most fragile and vulnerable humans – those in the womb with beating hearts – I urge Governor Whitmer to do the right thing: Sign the dismemberment abortion ban legislation into law.

TODAY AT NOON: When Dr. Monica Miller was sentenced to 33 days in the Oakland County Jail last summer for her part in the Red Rose Rescue effort, it wasn't her first time going to jail for defending the unborn. This week on The Cross Walk, Dr. Miller shares some of her wide range of experiences in the pro-life movement (including recovering the remains of aborted children from dumpsters and providing them with proper burials), discusses the movie Unplanned, and invites listeners to join in a nationwide prayer vigil for the unborn coming up this weekend (with sites in Traverse City and Petoskey

All throughout the world, Christians are gathering together to celebrate the beginning of our Lenten journey which we call Ash Wednesday. We have ashes placed on our foreheads and we begin this time of preparation … like watching the “coming attractions” at the movies. Holy Week and Easter is coming – the passion, death and resurrection of Christ our Savior! We prepare for it – so we don’t miss it! We have a time-honored formula that has been used for centuries by Christians – prayer, fasting and almsgiving – or works of charity.

Our day would not be complete without considering very briefly the two statements that can be said with regard to the imposition of Ashes – “Remember you are dust and unto dust you will return” – or “Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel.” Our mortality and the meaning of our lives are at stake here.

Still, our aim should not be to be afraid of the ashes – but to welcome them as we would acknowledge our failings and shortcomings, knowing that Christ is accompanying us on this journey every step of the way – pointing out the path – and helping us become truer to ourselves. The Sacrament of Penance is available and utilized to receive the abundance of grace we need during these confusing moments for all of us.

That’s Good News indeed!

May we turn away from all that is sinful and believe – truly believe in the Gospel – the good news that promises us life eternal! Let’s walk together as one family.

Some good tips, and, of course, memento mori!

#AshWednesday Fasting Tips:

1. Drink LOTS of water (*really* helps).
2. In your hunger, pray for those who go without.
3. Go to bed early the night before and/or the day of.
4. Don't complain or exaggerate the difficulty.
5. Offer up your suffering for someone you love

Sharing early so you can take advantage of Tip #3! May you all have a blessed Lent.

Great interview today on The Cross Walk by Deacon Kevin Endres! He was joined by Brother Casey Cole, OFM from Breaking In The Habit. Powerful words about using Social Media for ministry. Br. Cole (will be ordained a Priest next June) was on to promote his new book Called: What Happens After Saying Yes to God. The closing discussion of the interview focused on Social Media. Great correlation (paraphrasing) about Jesus going where the sinners and tax collectors were to preach, If you want to reach people with the Word of God you have to go where the people are hanging out! Social Media! Thanks Baraga Radio Network for hosting and producing this great weekly show. Catch the encore presentation this Friday!
Just listened to conversation with Bob Bowersox. What a great story on his faith. Is there a way I can listen to it again. I missed the beginning of it. Thanks!
