The death penalty. No questions asked. People would quit dealing and selling if they would do that for a few years. If you caught with dope and using ,10 years minimum on a chain gang with a hammer busting rock in ditches. That would give them time to think about their life choices.

We know it's long, but please read the whole thing.

On July 13th, we tragically lost our newest member of our K-9 team; K-9 Georgia.

What Happened?

On July 13th, 2025 the heat index in Trenton was around 100 to 102 degrees. Georgia’s Handler was inside the Sheriff’s Office, while Georgia was in her patrol car. Unfortunately, a combination of the following factors caused K-9 Georgia to pass away inside the vehicle’s kennel.

How did this happen?

The Sheriff’s Office immediately launched an investigation into the incident. What we found was that the air conditioner compressor on the patrol unit malfunctioned while K-9 Georgia’s Handler was inside the Sheriff’s Office, requiring total replacement of the compressor. The patrol vehicle was also equipped with a heat alarm that was not functioning. Those previous two factors, coupled with K-9 Georgia being left unattended for what we considered to be an unacceptable amount of time, contributed to her passing.

How will we make sure this never happens again?

Going forward, any K-9 vehicle we have will be taken out of service if ANY of the essential K-9 equipment isn’t in 100% working order. We are also going to overhaul our K-9 handler policy, and K-9’s WILL NOT be left in vehicles for extended periods of time during summer. At the direction of Sheriff Cross, K-9 Georgia’s handler is no longer an employee of Dade County Sheriff’s Office, and this entire incident will be turned over to the Dade County District Attorney’s Office to determine if prosecution is warranted in this particular case.

We will be 100% transparent about this incident! After we get a decision from the Dade County District Attorney’s Office about prosecution, we will know what additional details we can (or cannot) release.

Our hearts are aching at the loss of K-9 Georgia. Many of you know that she was donated to us by a local family, at no cost to the sheriff’s office. She was an amazing bloodhound who was sweet, goofy, and had all the potential to be the “best of the best”. She will be deeply missed by everyone at our office, and by anyone who had the pleasure to meet her.

CATOOSA COUNTY, GA - According to Sheriff Gary R. Sisk, the Catoosa County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at 161 Mason Drive, Ringgold, GA 30736, on June 02, 2025 following a cyber tip regarding child exploitation material. The tip indicated that child sexual abuse material was being downloaded from a specific IP address. Utilizing advanced investigative techniques, sheriff's office personnel were able to trace the activity to a specific device, including identification of the device's serial number. The investigation subsequently identified the device's owner as Ronnie Massey. A search of Mr. Massey's cell phone revealed images consistent with the original cyber tip. Mr. Massey was taken into custody without incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
The Catoosa County Sheriff's Office remains committed to protecting children and will continue to work closely with state and federal partners in pursuing those who engage in crimes of this nature.

Over the last 30 days, DCSO Deputies have taken approximately 374g of illegal drugs off our streets, along with multiple fi****ms and lots of drug related objects.

That breaks down to approximately 180g of Fentanyl (almost a half pound) and approximately 190g of Methamphetamine (just under a half pound).

Our Deputies manage to get this done while also answering numerous calls for service throughout their shift.

This post isn't highlighting anything "special", because our deputies do these types of seizures every month. We're just reminding our community that we're still working!

"The dedication and hard work that our Deputies put into this community, sometimes goes unnoticed by the community they strive to serve. While they know how much the majority of our community supports them, they don't do it for the recognition. They passionately continue to do it, because they know how many lives they may save in the process by getting this poison off our streets. I am so proud of everything our guys and girls do, and I could never show them the appreciation they deserve for carrying out our mission.

With all that being said, if you're driving through or visiting our county and you're carrying drugs, we will get you! It's not a matter of IF we get you, but WHEN we get you! Our guys and girls will have ZERO TOLERANCE when it comes to drugs. Don't believe us? Try it and see!"

Earlier this week, a Dade County Inmate made a complaint against a Dade County Detention Officer, which was sexual in nature.

Sheriff Cross requested that the Region 1 Georgia Bureau of Investigation Office investigate this matter, due to it involving an employee.

Following an investigation by the GBI, Sheriff Cross was made aware that probable cause exists to warrant criminal charges against the Detention Officer.

Detention Officer Travis Cuts (32 of West Brow, GA) was arrested and booked in to the Dade County Jail today, for the following charges:

*Violation of Oath of Office (OCGA 16-10-1) (x1 count)

*Sexual Assault by Persons with Supervisory or Discipline Authority (OCGA 16-6-5.1[b][3]) (x2 Counts)

*Sexual Battery (16-6-22.1) (x2 counts)

Statement from Sheriff Ray Cross:

"My Deputies and Detention Officers are held to a very high standard. We take our jobs to protect the people in our community, inside and outside our jail, very seriously! After hearing that the investigation warranted criminal charges, I immediately terminated former Detention Officer Travis Cutts, and reported the arrest to the Georgia POST Council (Peace Officer Standards & Training).

While Former Detention Officer Cutts is presumed innocent until proven guilty, I have zero tolerance for any of my employees who choose to tarnish our badge, and this incident should prove it. Things like this are a "black eye" on our entire profession, and they should NEVER be tolerated, or looked over. As long as I'm your sheriff, I will make certain they are handled accordingly, and with as much transparency as allowed by law. This VERY uncommon incident is not a reflection on any other employee at our Sheriff's Office. These were the actions of one person, and should not overshadow all the good that my Detention Officers and Deputies do every single day, to make a positive difference in this community.

We appreciate the GBI Calhoun Office, for their swift response to assist us with this investigation."

-This investigation is ongoing, and no further information will be released from the Sheriff's Office at this time, to protect the rights of everyone involved, and to protect the judicial process.
