This Saturday! Stellar, delightful exhibit at the AIHA -- hear the artist speak, then write creatively about her artwork. See details below.
Woodstock poet Leslie Ge**er is the featured poet at Caffe Lena on Wed. March 4! Come on out to listen and share!
If you're interested in, concerned about, afraid of, feeling ripped off or boxed in by the increasingly complex world of publishing, you might want to check out this on AI and authorship, which was recently filed by the Author's Guild. https://www.authorsguild.org/industry-advocacy/authors-guild-submits-comments-on-copyright-and-artificial-intelligence/. Let's say ten years from now, you have a brand new idea for a novel about a young woman driving an RV in a rain storm, who through not fault of her own, accidentally runs over an old woman on a bicycle. Horrified, she stops, checks out the completely dead casualty, notices the feet sticking out from under the RV are wearing an interesting pair of sparkly red slippers, and puts them on. You go on Amazon and order a story based on that of standard novel length, say 85,000 words. Seconds later your story is delivered to your Kindle reader for $2.99. Unless you have opted to have it bear your copyright, which will cost you an extra $20.00, it is (c) by Amazon, which owns the AI used to create the novel. Are you okay with that? Can Amazon trademark the ruby slippers used in the story so no one else can? 😳
Join us at Cathedral of All Saints - Albany, NY for another writing Workshop with Diane Cameron! Many of us were fearless poets as children—we enjoyed rhymes, made up limericks, and memorized famous lines of verse. Then, often in Junior High, a teacher scared us right out of poetry—or out of our public love of verse and creation. But deep inside we live as poets every day—feeling feelings, thinking big ideas and attaching words that tell a tale. Let’s take poetry back! In this single class we’ll play with words again in a judgment free zone and experiment with free verse and some fancy forms. Bring your love of language and your sense of humor—and a notebook or journal to capture our play. Together, we will write poetry without fear. Cost of the class is $15
