PROOF POINTS: New poll points to college and career benefits of Greek life despite criticism - The Hechinger Report

More than half of fraternity and sorority alumni said they had a job immediately after or within two months of graduating college compared with only 36 percent of unaffiliated college graduates. Greek alumni said they felt more engaged in their current jobs and more satisfied with their lives, too.

There are plenty of reasons to be critical of college fraternities and sororities. Hazing deaths happen too often. R**e and sexual assaults are even more common. Members of these exclusionary clubs are disproportionately white and wealthy. Instances of blatant racist and homophobic behavior are well...

Bad Reasons to Choose a College — College Factual for Students

Even something as meaningless as the weather can affect a student's decision to attend a college. It turns out, students who visit a college campus on cloudy days actually are more likely to apply to and attend that college. This is because students are more in the mood to study and work academically on cloudy days, so they are better able to envision themselves going to the college.

There are a lot of things to consider when it comes to choosing the right school. Here are some reasons NOT to choose a college.

Are You Providing The Best Education Your Student's Money Can Buy — Data for Colleges and Universities

Getting an artificial bump in the rankings may seem like a successful marketing strategy in the short term, but if you're not focusing on students, this will bring you nowhere fast. Any institution currently investing significant amounts of money to compete on shallow factors will soon find themselves with a cost structure that makes it difficult for them to compete as the consumers of higher education become more informed.

The current "one-size-fits-all" rankings regime creates a winner take all environment where institutions are rewarded for investing in things having little to do with education and brand is what is optimized for, not learning.  This arms race occurs at every stratum of higher educ

We are looking for a college/uni to build a lake front house in up state PA. The houses that are available in today's market are too expensive. We just want about 1,000 sq.ft. house with sustainable materials that don't leave a bad foot print and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. If we find a piece of lake front property that already has the water, sewer electric on it, is it possible the students could build us this as a school project for under $25,000? Is this possible? We would certainly allow you to use photos of the house for your advertising. We want the latest thinking in sustainable materials and keep the cost very low. We still have to find the land. Please write and let us know your thoughts. Thank you. Most Sincerely, Diane Boyle
