So I am finally able to get back in to Charli’s page.🤦🏼‍♀️🙌

A little life update- Charli is back in Children’s. She had a biopsy done a few weeks ago, and we found out there are signs of rejection. She was supposed to go to clinic this morning and would have been admitted to the hospital afterwards to start treatment for the rejection. Yesterday morning, she started running a fever, so the doctors in transplant wanted her to come to the hospital immediately. Once we got here, we spent part of the night in the ER. She had a tough time with the high fevers and was pretty sick for awhile. They finally got it under control and we were eventually moved to the “kidney” floor. She had a pretty restless night, but hasn’t had any more fever spikes so far 🙏🙌. They are treating her with broad spectrum, strong antibiotics while waiting on cultures to come back. They don’t really expect anything to grow since nothing has grown in the past several cultures and because they started antibiotics immediately when we arrived and didn’t get the urine sample until a couple hours after that….

As far as the rejection goes- once they treat the supposed infection for 48 hrs, they will start treating for the rejection. This will include several days with big doses of IV steroids. The head transplant dr assured me that this is fairly common and nothing to panic over. He said 90% of transplant patients experience at least one episode of rejection at some point.

Please pray that if there is any infection, that they are able to get it under control and can bring her lab numbers to a more normal range so that they can start the steroid doses.

As always, she is not allowed to leave her room and is very bored already. Pray for peace for her please.

Hopefully she will be out of here soon and can get ready to start school 🤞

Update on Charli:

She got back from Birmingham last night. I don’t know that they ever figured out exactly what was going on, but she is feeling much better! They’re treating her for a UTI with oral antibiotics, but I’m convinced she just had a bad stomach virus. Either way, she’s feeling better and that’s all that matters right now! Next step is a routine kidney biopsy that she will go through in June. It’s hard to believe we’re coming up on a year since the transplant! God is good! Thank you all for the continued prayers!

8:00 update-
Some of the residents from the various teams taking care of Charli have started coming in. Praise Jesus there is no abscess! The resident with transplant is so sweet and understanding and explains everything for me so I can completely understand. There is evidence of a kidney infection, but neither of the cultures done have shown any growth so far, so that is very encouraging, but also frustrating because they don’t know exactly which medicine to use. They have her on a broad spectrum, strong antibiotic and so far, she hasn’t had any more fever. She was very dehydrated when she came in due to the stomach virus. The fluids have perked her up some and she actually asked for food a few minutes ago. The team should round around 10 and hopefully I will find out more about their plan. Keep the prayers coming!

Just wanted to give everyone a quick update:

Charli had an ultrasound of her heart and kidney mid afternoon yesterday. The heart ultrasound was done after they heard a murmur and immediately became concerned about infection being in the bloodstream and possibly around the heart. They later determined that was not the case, and that murmur was caused from excessive blood flow from her pulse being so high. When her fever spikes (it has been as high as 106 this time) she begins shaking and vomiting, causing her pulse to soar. So that was a relief to hear that there is no issue with her heart. The kidney ultrasound showed a pocket of fluid around the kidney, and they are suspecting an abcess. They took her down for a CT around 7/730 last night and we still have not heard anything. She did have a restful night and did not spike any fevers, so hopefully we are on the right track with treatment.
I am expecting the drs to start coming in shortly and will update after I hear what they have to say. Thank you all so much for your prayers and encouragement. To those of you that have reached out to me- THANK YOU. Yesterday was a day full of worry, but hopefully today will be more positive. Thank you all again for loving Charli (and us).

Asking everyone to please pray for Charli. We came to Children’s in the middle of the night last night. As of this morning, they aren’t sure exactly what is going on, but our girl absolutely doesn’t feel well. They’re running tests and covering all of their bases. Please keep her in your thoughts and send up some prayers. I will update as I find out more. 💚

Little update- Charli has been in the hospital since Friday. They have had her on IV antibiotics while they waited on the urine cultures to come back. Thankfully this infection isn’t as bad as the past few have been and they’re releasing her with oral antibiotics! Please pray that they got it right and that the infection clears!
